HILLSBOROUGH (Orange County) Tea Party (NC) -- April 15, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Where: County Courthouse or Parking Lot of the old WalMart on Churton St., (permits pending)
Contact: patriot_tim@yahoo.com UPDATE The Tea Party in Hillsborough was awesome tonight! The weather cooperated. It initially looked like we might get some rain, but it held off until after the Party was over. The estimation of crowd size is at least 500. Pretty good for a county which went for Obama 72%-27%, and for having only really planned for about two weeks (some TPs were nearly two months in planning). There was a lot of excitement, and standing room only on the grounds of the old Courthouse there in Hillsborough. We have originally thought we'd only have 200-250, but those numbers were quite obviously blown away. People started showing up around 4:00 PM due to a mix up with the information that the national Tax Day Tea Party had posted. I had sent in the correct information (5:30-6:30), but it took them over a week to update it, which resulted in some confusion. Nevertheless, folks who showed up started mingling and carrying signs and were working the through traffic (courthouse is located right in downtown Hillsborough - prime traffic time, too). LOTS of people driving by were honking, many of them quite vigourously. I was surprised by the number of blacks and young people who honked and gave thumbs up, etc. - two demographics who supposedly have completely drank the Obama koolaid....maybe the magic's starting to wear off, even for them? Only had a couple of lefties driving by who shouted or challenged us. I heard (but didn't see) that somebody flipped off some of our protestors, but all in all, the lefties (and we know they were there and driving by) seemed pretty cowed and subdued by our presence. Had several speakers who addressed the crowd. Ben Lloyd (registered Democrat, but conservative), a former Orange Co. commissioner, spoke first, followed by yours truly, then Karen Pollock, a local businesswoman spoke. Bill Knight, the Orange Co. GOP chairman, gave a folksy yet rousing speech, and then the keynote speaker, Tom Fetzer (conservative former mayor of Raleigh) gave an EXCELLENT, bang up speech about how we need to be willing to sacrifice and work if we want to get our freedom's back (something the whiny, third-party loving ego-tripping runaways here on Free Republic could stand to have heard).
The event culminated with nearly all 500+ people in attendance dumping out bottles of tea onto the grounds of the courthouse (good thing it rained after the Party). Overall, lots of excitement, and a general sense that this Tea Party can't be where it ends, but that we have to keep fighting, keep networking, and keep putting pressure on the politicians every chance and every way we get. TQC out.

RALEIGH Tea Party (NC) -- When: April 15, 6:30pm - 8:30pm Where: NC State Capitol (Tentative, Waiting on Permit Approval); One East Edenton Street P. 919.523.5217 Other Info:www.raleighteaparty.com Contact: raleightaxdayteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE C. Edmund Wright reports from Raleigh, NC: The crowd filled the area at the Capitol that had been fenced off for the event and were kind of spilling over around the edges of the Capitol grounds. I would say 5000 or so. Very loud. Very funny signs. Very little attention being paid to speeches, but a lot of attention was paid to the passers by in cars. Many of the motorists were giving thumbs up to the party goers. I would say it was an intense atmosphere that was mostly happy but there is some righteous anger that is easy to detect. A lot of kids had signs imploring the government to stop spending their money. I will see how badly the media downplays it. (I just about got sick watching Democrat strategist Bob Shrum -- who has never won an election -- downplaying the whole thing to Larry Kudlow.)

Teeshirts & sandals mixed with three piece suits and all shared the same outrage at the ruling elite. The idea of non-responsive government drew larger larger appause than excessive taxes. Yes, this was a tax revolt but I felt more of a revolt against a government that has forgotten who is boss.

We are going to end up on the Bob Kerrey Memorial Pedestrian Bridge. To get there, we plan on marching with signs from two predesignated gathering points. People can join in along the way, or else meet us at the bridge if you do not want to walk the distance. When we are at the bridge, it looks as if we are going to lower huge 'tea bags' from the bridge expressing our anger against the rampant spending by the federal government and their voting block buddies Ben Nelson and Tom Harkin. One start location will be in Omaha. The other will be in Council Bluffs, so our Iowa friends can join us on the bridge from their side. Other plans will be added to this list as we develop them, but I've had a lot of questions as to our plans. http://taxdayteaparty.com http://dontgo.ning.com UPDATE After Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn spoke {too cheers}, things went downhill. Omaha’s long-term Congress Critter, Lee Terry was given the podium. Among other things he Endorsed and then Introduced the Republican candidate for Mayor of Omaha, Hal Daub. Omaha’s Republican Party couldn’t be bothered to find a candidate to run in the 2nd City Council District primary. Those of us that went to the polls, for the April Primary, were asked to select from a field of ONLY Democrats. Now, they corrupt/transmogrify the TEA Party!???! I’ll be getting a Suttle Yard Sign soon.. -- Thousands of patriots crowded into the the Douglas County Courthouse plaza this afternoon to "Say It Loud We're Mad and We're Proud". The mood was festive but tempered by serious frustrations with profligate government spending, illegal immigration, a Byzantine tax code and a headlong rush to socialism by the Bush and Obama administrations. The photos speak volumes about the event. I love the smell of freedom in the afternoon. --- Capping a day of tax-related protests across the Midlands, an estimated 1,500 people filled the grounds outside the Douglas County Courthouse in Omaha Wednesday evening. Among the speakers was Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn, who drew cheers from the crowd when he said that Congress and President Barack Obama are spending "our children into utter oblivion." --- “My husband and I were also in Omaha. I was closer to the front so I couldn’t tell how many for sure but estimate 800 easy. I loved the speech of Patrick Henry. Let this be the beginning of holding the politicians feet to the fire and stop spending our children and grandchildren’s prosperty.”

STANTON Tea Party (NE) -- April 15, (LOCAL UNANNOUNCED TEA PARTY) UPDATE The tea party in Stanton, Nebraska, today brought about 200, and this with no advertising. A table, a sign, and two thermos containers of iced tea were set up in front of the local post office. Stanton is a small town (population circa 1500), and it was all word-of-mouth. The event had been planned from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., but because of the interest the tea party generated, the event was kept open another hour, until 4 p.m. A count was kept--obviously there weren't 400 people all there at the same time; 200 people over seven hours, a count that does NOT include people just going to the post office to get their mail, and nothing else. I wish I could write more, and better, but I just got home and am all dragged out. It was great. It was awesome.

I would estimate the crowd at close to (if not over) 1000 patriots. On hand were Mayor Frank Guinta of Manchester, the mayor of Franklin, NH, local sports radio celebrity Charlie Sherman, and Charles Arlinghaus of the NH Union Leader, among others. I saw no sign of "disruptors" anywhere. PORTSMOUTH Tea Party (NH) -- April 15, 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm Where: In front of the North Church Market Square Contact: debnet9709@aol.comOther Info: Bring your Signs! UPDATE Hundreds of people gathered in Market Square on Wednesday to take part in the Tax Day Tea Party, which police called the largest protest they've ever seen in the city. "Other than the Christmas Tree lighting, I've never seen a crowd this size (in Market Square)," said Lt. Mike Schwartz, a 19-year city police department veteran who estimated the crowd at between 200 and 300 people. Tax Day Tea Party Led by local conservative radio pundit Jeff Chidester, the crowd waved signs in the air and shouted "Enough is enough!" Hundreds of similar protests were held nationwide in response to the Obama administration's federal stimulus package. "You are the new patriots of a new revolution," shouted Chidester, who encouraged the crowd to make its displeasure known in the voting booths. The crowd, which was a mix of young and old, gathered in front of North Church around 5:15 p.m. and dispersed about an hour later. Police said the protest was loud and large, but orderly. "I'm just really horrified with what's going on with the spending," said Carolyn McKenzie, of Newfields, who carried a sign in one hand and wheeled a double stroller with the other. "You can't run a household that way. I don't see how you can run a government that way." McKenzie said she felt her other attempts to voice her displeasure to her representatives went unnoticed. "This was the only other option," she said. The protests nationwide were a clear message to politicians in Washington, D.C., according to Portsmouth resident Jack Thorsen. "It hits a nerve in the American people, I think," said Thorsen. "We're creating money out of nothing, and it's going to ruin the economy. And our grandchildren will pay for it." The winner of Chidester's unofficial competition for the best sign at the protest was: "If I run out of money and I print more, it's called counterfeit. If the government runs out of money and they print more, it's called stimulus." Mike S., a registered independent voter from Hampton Falls who declined to give his last name, said spending bills that are being passed are not being properly examined. He said the protest was the only way to express his anger. "I've had it with all the money being spent down in D.C., and it's not being represented by the people," he said. "It's not one party or the other; it's just out of control." Thorsen, who ran as a Republican for the state House of Representatives last fall, said he was not surprised at the turnout, despite Portsmouth being a liberal-leaning city. "I think this is a non-partisan issue," said Thorsen. "I think good fiscal responsibility is everyone's concern." (Source: Sea Coast Online.)

FLEMINGTON Tea Party (NJ) -- April 15, Noon - 2:00pm Where: The northwest corner of Main Street and Court Street Contact: flemingtonteaparty@gmail.comOther Info: http://flemingtonteaparty.blogspot.com/ UPDATE I attended Tea Party in Flemington, NJ. It’s a small town, but about 500 showed up over the course of the event—despite rain and sleet. First time I attended a protest rally as a participant. Wonderful experience. It was especially gratifying to realize that I’m not alone in what I believe. I’m gonna try my best to attend the Washington rally. --- “200 in Flemington NJ, on the steps of the old courthouse where Charles Linberg’s baby kidnapping trial was held so long ago. We slowed traffic on main street; gaukers and honking horns…very cool! Trenton NJ held a much larger event not 15 miles away so 200 in Flemington on a cold rainy day where we had to attend on our lunch hour, not bad!”

HARBOR VIEW PARK - CAPE MAY Tea Party (NJ) -- April 15, (LOCAL UNANNOUNCED TEA PARTY) UPDATE "A driving rain with strong northeasterly winds whipping across the harbor didn't stop 85-100 from gathering for our own harbor Tax Day Tea Party. We had planned to have a boat participating from the harbor for our tea dumping but the weather prohibited any boats from taking part. The commitment and fortitude of the people who showed up around the country in the same kind of weather makes me proud. But, you know those right wing extremists- they just don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain! God bless them."
MORRISTOWN Tea Party (NJ) -- When: April 15, 9:00 am - 12:00pm Where: TBA Contact: joelukas@verizon.net UPDATE It was a gray, drizzly day in Morristown, New Jersey, but that didn’t keep some 300 demonstrators – young and old, placard wielding and politically unarmed – from turning out to the city’s downtown green to take part in what has rapidly become a national phenomenon: the Tea Party protest. --- I attended the Tax Day Tea Party on the Morristown Green in Morristown, New Jersey. I left about halfway through because I wasn't feeling well -- also because I had to go back to my car anyway (thanks to Morristown's stupid 2-hour parking limit) and decided I'd beat the traffic. I'll leave it to others to describe the speeches etc. However, I took many photos -- and I just got done putting them all up on Flickr! Enjoy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26962760@N00/sets/72157616731892721 --- BTW, I'm no expert in the "science" of estimating public crowds, BUT I have been responsible, many times, for counting attendance at my church -- and I know "approximately" what a block of 150 people looks like. I walked around the Green a number of times, taking pictures... and my unofficial estimate is that there were at least 1,000 to 1,200 people there -- possibly as many as 1,500 to 2,000. --- I just returned from the Morristown, NJ, "tea party." It wasn't exactly a nice day for it. It was cold, occasionally gusty, and there were scattered showers. Still there was a pretty good crowd on the "Green." The Green was about half full. My guess was about 1500 at the peak and about 1000 when I left. The crowd was sufficiently large that I didn't see a couple of people I knew to be present, and I didn't encounter any obvious FReepers as I walked around. If there were any "infiltrators" they did a good job of staying under cover. The policemen who were there virtually had the day off. A number of the people running to wrest the governor's office from Corzine, including the two front runners, were there and answered some questions put to them by the tea party organizers. Here are a couple of pictures of the crowd. --- The AP is reporting that there were "about 300" people there. Am I allowed to quote them when they lie? About 300 people gathered on on The Green in Morristown, N.J. to dispute the cost of the economic stimulus package. http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/business/Tax-Day-Tea-Party.html And they have no clue what this was about. We weren't "disputing" anything. Yes, there were a few signs protesting the "stimulus" package like, "Next Time, Read the Bill First," but this was primarialy a protest against Leviathan Government. Hello? AP? --- At the Tea Party one woman speaking from the stage said they handed out 1,000 programs so there were at least that many people there. --- “We went to the MORRISTOWN NJ TEA PARTY. They expected a few hundred, got 2000!!!! IT WAS THE LARGEST IN THE ENTIRE STATE!!! Despite the rain (and hail at times) people kept coming and coming. It was absolutely AMAZING! Great job EVERYONE!!! Let’s KEEP IT UP!”

Phone: 973-406-4688 Web Site: http://tomsnow.serveblog.net UPDATE Considering the nasty weather, I thought the turnout was quite good for such a small venue. I’d estimate roughly 100 people participated and was very pleased to see quite a few members of the younger generations contributing. In my opinion that bodes well for our nation’s future. The support wasn’t limited to those actually participating in the protest: there were numerous times when the horns honking in solidarity actually drowned out the speaker and the crowd eagerly cheered in return. I saw nothing to suggest infiltration; though one woman did ask if this was a crowd of right-wing gun nuts. I didn’t hear the question posed directly, but upon hearing of the question asked, I replied:
“You mean like the framers?” I probably should’ve paid more attention to her questions, as some of them seemed directly related to her probable belief that the federal government’s powers are largely unlimited in nature – a stance that I strongly oppose. But as it was I only caught bits and portions of her queries and chose to ignore them as the Constitution aptly answers them if one dares to bother reading it. All in all I thought the event was great fun. More importantly, I found it refreshing to learn that there are many others who take our Constitution seriously. I’ve posted the 113 pictures (I took) here: http://vinelandprotest.shutterfly.com/

SANTA FE Tea Party (NM) -- When: April 15, Time TBA Where: TBA Contact: santafeteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE Hundreds of people showed up at the Santa Fe Plaza on Wednesday to vent anger against taxes and government spending. They cheered remarks by a former Republican governor and a Republican candidate for governor, but booed a Democrat who said taxes are necessary. The event, billed as the Santa Fe Tea Party, was part of a series of "tea parties" organized around the country on the day when federal income-tax returns were due. They were called "tea parties" in reference to the famous pre-Revolutionary War event in 1773 when American colonists, protesting British taxes, dumped tea from British ships into Boston Harbor. While the gatherings were billed as bipartisan, grass-roots events, they were heavily promoted by some GOP politicians and featured prominently by the right-leaning Fox News channel. In New Mexico, the state Republican Party promoted "tea parties" in several cities. Many of the signs displayed at the Santa Fe rally indicated an intense dislike of President Barack Obama: "233 Years to Build a Nation, 3 Months to Destroy It," one placard read. Another showed a photo of a gravestone marked "United States of America, Born July 4, 1776. Died Nov. 8, 2008. Suicide." In the November presidential election, Obama carried Santa Fe and the state by wide margins. Other signs were more humorous. "Your Pork Broke My Piggy Bank," one said. Another, referring to lending institutions bailed out by the federal government during the recent mortgage credit meltdown, read "Freddie Mac Can Ki$$ My Fannie Mae." But nobody in the crowd seemed to find any humor in former state Sen. John Grubesic's speech. Early in his talk, Grubesic, a Democrat who represented a Santa Fe district for a term but didn't seek re-election last year, got some applause when he said the two-party system in the U.S. is "completely dysfunctional" and that both major parties are responsible for the current financial crisis. But things started turning ugly when Grubesic declared, "I do not enjoy paying taxes, but I recognize that tax dollars are necessary for the functioning of a civilized society." The scattered boos got louder when he said, "When you compare the level of taxes in the United States with other advanced countries, we are getting off pretty easy." After Grubesic declared, "I look forward to the expiration of the tax cuts imposed by President Bush — tax cuts are partly responsible for our fiscal disaster," jeers nearly drowned out the rest of his speech. "You're wrong! You're wrong!" one man shouted, while others yelled, "Go home!" "OK, that's enough!" "Sit down and shut up!" After the event, several people approached Grubesic. "I don't agree with a lot of what you said, but I admire you for standing up for your beliefs," one man said. One woman apologized for the behavior of the crowd. Grubesic, who often courted controversy during his four years in the New Mexico Senate, seemed unfazed by the negative reactions. "I'm just happy to be invited to speak anywhere," the lawyer said. "My own party doesn't invite me to speak." Attendees were much more in tune with former Gov. Gary Johnson, who was elected to two terms as a Republican but, as often was the case when he was in office, did not give a party-line talk Wednesday. Dressed in a gray T-shirt with a peace symbol, Johnson said, "I'm really disappointed in the Republican Party of the last eight years. We had the presidency and the Congress, and we rang up record deficits." He also criticized the war in Iraq. He said the U.S. shouldn't have gone to war if it had to resort to massive deficit spending. While those criticisms didn't win him big applause, the crowd ate it up when Johnson talked about government waste, high taxes and the possibility of runaway inflation. He criticized as wasteful the state's recently expanded Rail Runner commuter train operation and the state jet purchased by his Democratic successor, Gov. Bill Richardson. Johnson got a big ovation when he said there should be term limits for officeholders. Ironically, shortly after he said that, one man shouted out, "We want you back, Gary." Johnson served two four-year terms. New Mexico National Guard Brig. Gen. Greg Zanetti, who is seeking the 2010 Republican gubernatorial nomination, also got a good reception. The crowd cheered when master of ceremonies Josh Gonze pointed out that Zannetti recently returned from a year of serving as deputy commander at the U.S. Naval base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. As far as state taxes go, New Mexico ranks somewhere in the middle in terms of per capita taxes. According to 2005 U.S. Census figures released last year, New Mexico ranked 21st out of the 50 states. The amount of taxes paid per capita for this state was listed as $2,322.78. As for getting a share of federal spending, New Mexico has fared better than most states. According to a study by The Northeast-Midwest Institute, a private, Washington-based, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization, New Mexico in 2005 ranked fourth per capita among states in receiving federal dollars. In terms of return on tax dollars, the state ranks second behind Mississippi. New Mexico gets $2 in federal spending for every dollar that state citizens pay in federal taxes. Under gray skies, with wintry temperatures in the upper thirties, thousands of frustrated but enthusiastic taxpayers turned out today in Carson City Nevada for perhaps the biggest grass-roots protest demonstration the tiny capitol city has ever seen. The crowd gathered beginning at 10:30 AM, on the tree-covered lawn of the Legislative building, with the trees in full blossom to provide a soft canopy for the determined protesters. The flag-festooned protest continued through 1PM. The group included families with children, young adults, seniors, and veterans. The crowd of thousands stretched out on both sides of Carson Street, for 5 blocks, greeting motorists honking in support. As traffic crawled past, truckers greeted the gathering with blasts of their air horns, earning a cheer from the crowd each time. A large contingent of the group centered on a speaker's area on the lawn, where T-shirt vendors, voter registrars, and activists offered their products and services, and conservative speakers delivered their messages to applause. While the signs and messages carried by the protesters were often harshly critical of Nevada Senator Harry Reid, and President Obama, a family festival atmosphere prevailed. Possibly, this cheerfully conservative group reclaimed the "hope" mantra from Democrats.

FISHKILL Tea Party (NY) -- When: April 15, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Where: Doug Phillips Park Contact: fishkillteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE “The Fishkill Tea Party was awesome. We packed out Dutchess Stadium, 4000+ in attendence, the police had traffic backed up to I-84 and we ran out of parking that the police had to turn people away or we probably had over 5000.
Tea Party System
Less than three months after a landmark election, throngs of demonstrators everywhere gathered to object to the revolution that our new president is steamrolling into law. It was a landmark protest in the history of the republic.
But how can the voices of tens if not hundreds of thousands of angry taxpayers be turned into concrete political action?
Investor's Business Daily attended one of these historic events, the Fishkill Tea Party in upstate New York, just east of the Hudson River. The original Fishkill Tea Party took place Aug. 26, 1776, when 100 women forced a storekeeper named Abram Brinckerhoff to sell them tea at the lawful price of 6 shillings per pound. This year's Fishkill Tea Party nearly filled Dutchess Stadium, the county's minor-league ballpark.
In a region of liberal New York state where Democrats have been consolidating their power during the last two elections, thousands traveled long distances to support pretty much the classic Reagan political agenda — and not just on taxes and spending.
Banners and placards sported slogans that included "Don't Spread My Wealth. Spread My Work Ethic," "Who'll Bail Me Out?" "Atlas Will Shrug," "Tea Today. No Kool-Aid," and "Acorn Didn't Have To Bus Us Here," referring to the left-wing activist group that specializes in voter registration drives benefiting liberal Democrats.
The crowds responded with thunderous applause to the various local activists' rallying cries, ranging from "How about those Navy Seals!" referring to the recent rescue of Americans from Somali pirates, to attacks on Hollywood for its role in moving America away from traditional Judeo-Christian values.
The audience roared when resentment was expressed toward illegal aliens who eat away the social welfare resources funded by taxpayers. When unemployed information technology manager Troy Johnson took the podium, he elicited an ovation with the quip:
"Just to prove how radical I am, I believe we should all be speaking English!"
The throng cheered calls for term limits to curb the power of elitist career politicians; applauded taunts that the establishment media would proceed to underestimate and misreport the size of the turnout; shouted in approval for blocking the president's planned federal intrusion into health care; and rose from its seats for a speaker who called Washington's march toward socialism "a slap in the face to those who have served in the military."
It was quite clear, however, that the tea partiers feel betrayed by Republicans, not just the Democrats now in power in both the executive and legislative branches in Washington.
One youthful speaker described the cause of the financial crisis as an "assault on our free market system paired with corporate bailouts." The Bush White House late last year lobbied skeptical congressional Republicans hard on a $14 billion auto industry bailout.
Johnson pointed out that "we know that they know that nobody can read 1,000 pages overnight," referring to the rush to get a stimulus bill passed and to the lawmakers who signed it without knowing much of what was in it.
The crowd may not have been aware that apart from liberal Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe and Arlen Specter, the GOP in Congress formed a united front against the Democrats' tax-and-spend behemoth. But the Republican brand is blemished.
During 12 years of dominance in Congress and eight years in the White House, the GOP failed to kick its addiction to pork and make tough decisions on controlling entitlement spending. It found it too politically risky to secure the U.S. borders — even in the post-9/11 years when homeland security trumped all other concerns.
It's almost as if Republicans were daring the kind of people who attended this week's events to go the dead-end route of starting their own third political party.
The tea party movement proves that even in the left-leaning Northeast, a huge natural constituency exists for these bread-and-butter American issues — lower taxes, less government, a strong military that's allowed to win, tough measures to end illegal immigration, term limits and family values.
It's all there, waiting to be tapped into — if only a few smart politicians would grasp the opportunity. (Source: IBD)

(2). NEW YORK CITY Tea Party (NY) -- When: April 15, 7:00pm - 9:00pm Where: City Hall Contact: nycteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE I LOVE AMERICA! I just came back from city hall awash in the best of humanity. There was a cast of thousands. The most notable factoid? Everyone I spoke to and interviewed were first timers. Working class Joes that are angry - mad as hell and they are not going to take it anymore. Lots of moms with their kids. Loads of businessmen. And lots of Atlas readers. What a feeling! As one small business owner complained that with all the Obamanation taxes, she makes 34 cents on the dollar. She said she belonged to a small business association and at their last meeting - the entrepreneurs were enraged. Even those that voted for Zero admitted to making a terrible mistake. The message - get government under control and get your teeth out of our neck. Our founding fathers were be proud. The sidewalks were packed. The cops were screaming at the people to keep moving - very nasty. I've covered the leftist Islamic rallies for years and they never treat them that way. The Muslims take over the streets. Look at Time Square. The good people of NY didn't like it - they yelled back, you don't treat Al Sharpton this way! Classic. (Atlas Shruggs) -- I had the great privilege of joining thousands of New Yorkers (and Americans) at the New York City Tea Party. The tea party was held in front of City Hall Park on Broadway. I met up with three other FReepers at 6:30pm, and there had to be at least 1,000 people there already. I met Andrew Wilkow of the Wilkow Majority on SiriusXM. He introduced me to David Webb and KT McFarland. They were all gracious and friendly, and let me take a picture with them. I was fairly close to the stage, so I could'nt see how big the crowd was, but it went on up Broadway for at least three blocks and across the street in front of the Woolworth Building. The crowd was energetic, respectful and completely under control. One of New York's finest said that this was the best crowd he's ever dealt with. I saw no ACORN thugs or any other intruders. Newt Gingrich spoke at around 9:20pm. The crowd roared. I have lots of pictures that I will attempt to post later. I was glad to be a part of history. -- NYPD estimated 12,500 people were there. Awesome turnout for the lion's den of liberalism. --- “I thought your organization may be interested in the strange silence surrounding the NYC tea party, where attendance was supposedly estimated by the NYPD to break 12,000. I was dressed as a ‘Son of Liberty’ at the party and personally was interviewed by the AP, the Huffington Post, UVA television, News One for Black America and NYU News. The AP story has been released but the Huff Post, News One and NYU News have not released a SINGLE STORY about the tea party in NY. Why is NYC being blacked out?”

WHITE PLAINS Tea Party (NY) -- April 15, Noon Where: Outside the Westchester Count Center Contact: Jcoolong@mywdo.com Other Info:LateHitSports.com/TaxDayTeaParty UPDATE Excellent turnout at the White Plains, New York Tea Party today!!! Several hundred (400-500) people gathered, which was good for a Tea Party that started in the middle of the work day (12PM). The protest started in front of Westchester County Center but spilled out into the divider of the main road so everyone got a better view of us.
Some terrific signs including; “Give me Liberty- Not Debt!!” and “Hey Schumer- Pork is Not Kosher!!” and a number of “Impeach Obama” signs….I came armed with a two sided sign which read: Obama: Socialist Pig! on one side and MSNBC Is Scum!! on the other….the MSNBC side got a lot of positive reaction. Drivers who passed by were for us at least 9-to-1!!! Several city bus drivers honked in approval of our effort….truck drivers of all colors honked to say they were with us. The crowd was great and very mixed…a LOT of young people and even MORE senior citizens. One lovely black woman stood in front with a “Taxed Enough Already” sign to let everyone know she is against Obama. Ordinary Americans took to the stage to give speeches, many which were outstanding. Of course the media was nowhere to be found!! One lady made sure people knew she was not a “right wing extremist” rather a democrat whose parents came from Puerto Rico. She said she spoke Spanish at home but always spoke English in public as that is the language of America….she told us of working her way through college, as many of us did, and never considering taking a handout from the government…. her sign was great; “I’m proud to be an American but scared of the government!”.
My favorite speaker was a man with a Spanish accent. He said he came here from the Dominican republic in 1979, worked 60 hours a week washing dishes, became an American, put himself through college and now has a masters and NEVER got a single cent from the government ….he said, “If I can do it by myself anyone can!!”. He ended it off by saying “We need regime change in Washington now!!” His passion and pride was incredible…. There were other great speeches from men and woman, young and old, veterans, cops and others!!! We ended the rally, which lasted 90 minutes but was still going on as I left, by singing God Bless America….very touching!!!

Locally, organizers are targeting Stark County commissioners’ imposition of a 0.5 percent sales tax. Just after 1 p.m., the protesters began chanting, “U-S-A! U-S-A!” The Stark County Young Republicans group said it registered about 1,200 people at the event to be notified of other activities. Other protests were planned across the nation today. Of those events that took place at the same time as Canton’s, local organizers say Canton drew the largest crowd. --- What a great day in Canton, OH!
At least 1,200 concerned American citizens turned out for the Tea Party! I have some great video's of the Tea Party and I have posted them on YouTube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2bQmmkM-qQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nmzpz4Carw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nmzpz4Carw ---
CINCINNATI Tea Party (OH) -- When: April 15, Time TBD Where: March from Fountain Square to City Hall; Intent to deliver the petition signed by thousands on Mar 15 protest to stop the porkulus spending. Other Info: http://www.cincinnatiteaparty.org/Events/415rally.htm Contact: mike@cincinnatiteaparty.org UPDATE We had only 4,500 in Cincinnati. Wonder why the mayor was too scared to come out of City Hall and talk to us? --- I heard an estimate on WLW of 7,000. My ballpark guess would have pressed higher than that just. The square was jam packed and people were filling Vine Street as well, so it was clearly a large crowd. Though I did see some people dressed as if they were there from work, the majority of people seemed dressed to be there for the long haul.
I personally saw a handful of counter-protesters (probably 8 or 9 total). I heard (but did not see) what sounded like 20 or so at one point chanting “O-ba-ma”, but they were quickly drowned out by some chanting of “U. S. A.” One of the counter-protesters I saw was chanting “White Supremacy.” I guess she thought Robert Byrd was coming or something. One carried a sign that said “Republican’s Fore Sell Cry Babies.” At least he spelled cry babies correctly. Most of the others were content to chant “O-ba-ma.” I saw a couple get asked questions like “What has Obama done that you like?” and watched them only come up with answers similar to “You’re a racist.” For the most part the protesters ignored the counter-protesters.
After a few speakers, the group marched from Fountain Square to City Hall. I noted quite a few people looking out of office windows watching and a few even giving thumbs up to the crowd as they marched by. A petition to reject stimulus money was handed over when we arrived at City Hall. The crowd stayed around for a while, chanting (”USA”) and singing (”God Bless America”).
CLEVELAND Tea Party (OH) -- Location: Cleveland, Ohio Cleveland Public Square, Downtown Cleveland Date: April 15, 2009 Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM EST Other Info: http://clevelandteaparty.webs.com Contact: clevelandohioteaparty@gmail.com Website Link: http://clevelandteaparty.webs.com UPDATE Thousands of protesters, most waving signs with anti-tax slogans, gathered in Mall C in downtown Cleveland for a rally modeled after the original Boston Tea Party. Similar rallies were held across the country. --- The event was a success! The people and the speakers were great, it even stopped raining and didn`t restart till the event was over. BTW,the speaker announced that there was an estimated five thousand in attendance,in foul, cold Cleveland weather!5000 showed up!We need to keep up the momentum and turn this into a real movement for liberty and freedom.
COLUMBUS Tea Party (OH) -- When: April 15, 6:00 pm- 7:30 pm Where: Ohio Statehouse, Corner of Broad St. & High St. Contact: right@rightontheright.com Other Info: http://www.shotsonthehouse.com/teaparty UPDATE On the same spot where then-candidate Barack Obama delivered closing arguments for the presidency last November, thousands of Ohioans gathered yesterday evening to issue a rebuttal. The "tea party" on the lawn of the Statehouse was one of hundreds of events around the country on the federal tax deadline to protest Obama's tax policies and the federal stimulus package. Organizers said about 7,000 people attended. The message was simple: The federal government, already bloated by decades of growth, now is gorging on the next generation's earnings with a stimulus plan that relies on billions of dollars in borrowed money. After nearly two hours of speeches by politicians as recognizable as state Auditor Mary Taylor and former U.S. Rep. John Kasich -- who is exploring a run for governor -- and as obscure as candidates for the Columbus City Council, the crowd had dwindled to a few hundred faithful by twilight. --- I went to the event. The signs and people were great. Unfortunately, the speakers were lame politicians who totally missed the point. There was one business owner from Marysville who was pretty good. There was a guy plugging the fair tax. He pushed fair tax but did not emphasize reducing actual spending and cutting programs (As if how we collect taxes will make things all better). They had a Delaware county recorder get on stage and talk about how important his (gov't) job is. I left at that point. I figured that if this is the best our side can muster than we have lost. I was appalled at the lame politicians who grabbed the microphone on this event and said nothing but lame platitudes and "safe" speech. It really bugs me that they brought in 4000 people and they had the nerve to put politicians on stage to talk about their accomplishments and how great they are. I am still ticked by it. --- I was there and the crowd was bigger than I expected plus it was enthusiastic. My guess of the crowd size was at least 5,000, although I didn't really have a good vantage point to estimate its size. The turnout was good, especially considering the weather. John Kasich was the main speaker and the crowd responded really well to him, chanting "John, Run, John!". He is expected to run for governor in two years against our paper-pushing current governor, Theodore Strickland. Another speaker, a local talk show host, spoke about the abuse of the constitution by our politicians and government. (Columbus Dispatch.)
DAYTON Tea Party (OH) -- When: April 15, 6:00pm - 8:00pm Where: TBA, Downtown Dayton Other Info: http://www.daytonohioteaparty.com/ Contact: info@daytonohioteaparty.com UPDATE -- In Dayton, we had 6,000 in a substantially Dem town. The local ABC interviewed me, and said, “What do you hope comes of this?” I said, “More. They clearly aren’t listening in Washington. I have three simple words for them: STOP SPENDING MONEY!” It ran, many times, on the news.
Thousands are downtown for Tea Party
A crowd believed to be a few thousand has gathered downtown on Tax Day 2009 for the Dayton Tea Party on Courthouse Square. The event going on this evening, Wednesday, April 15, was created in protest of what organizers call “runaway government spending.”
Rob Scott, one of the organizers, said petitions would be circulated in the crowd, calling for the repeal of economic stimulus funding or for governments agencies to refuse to accept stimulus funding.
People in the crowd offered their take on the event and its intended message. “People are getting the same treatment as the Indian people,” Ricky Slow Elk, an American Indian from Ohio, said in answer to why he came out. Bill Barga, of Coldwater, said he just sold a business he started and paid about $1 million in taxes. He carried a sign that read, “Pelosi adopt me” in reference to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California. “I’m upset with our entire system,” Barga said. “It’s becoming more socialist with the federal government running things, and the state has no control.”
Darla Williamson of Piqua brought a sign that read, “Free markets not freeloaders.” She said the sign refers to people who don’t want to work and that the government has to bail out. “What we’re doing right now is not the solution,” she said referring to the government bailout of businesses.
According to event organizers, about 7,500 people signed up to attend the event that is to run from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring speech making and musical entertainment.
About 2,000 attended a similar event — modeled after the Boston Tea Party tax protest of 1773 — held in Cincinnati’s Fountain Square this afternoon. Dayton police said if the crowd swells as anticipated, Main Street in front of Courthouse Square would be closed temporarily. Scott, the event co-organizer, said the petitions will be mailed to city commissions, city councils, township boards of trustees, as well as state and federal legislators.
The movement will continue after this evening’s event, with the Marshall Tea Plan, Scott said. People of like minds are being asked to volunteer to attend local government and school board meetings to monitor spending. The goal is to draw attention to the need for fiscal restraint, support for the free market and small businesses, and respect for the U.S. Constitution, Scott said. (Source: Dayton Daily News.)

SIDNEY (Shelby Country) Tea Party (OH) -- April 15 (LOCAL UNANNOUNCED TEA PARTY) UPDATE The day started off with rain. Fortunately the rain had ended by the time of the Tea Party. Even so, there was an overcast and chilly wind, with temperature of 45 degrees. Despite the unfavorable weather, the Shelby County/Sidney (Ohio) Tea Party was a success. Estimated turnout about 500 people. Not bad for town of 20,000 people. Speakers included our State Senator and our State Representative. A former Sidney mayor read a statement from our Congressman, who was speaking in person at Tea Party in Dayton. Other local citizens spoke, including yours truly. The speeches weren't polished, but they were heartfelt. There's a lot of anger out here in "flyover land." One striking thing occurred at mention of our senior US Senator, George Voinovich. When he first ran for governor, over 15 years ago, Shelby County was one of the only two counties in the state that he carried. Yet simple mention of his name at the Tea Party brought hoots of derision from the crowd. In two terms as governor and nearly two terms as senator, he has managed to squander all the good will and support he had back then. He is not unique in this, but I think he symbolizes much greater change in America in recent years. We are fed up with the government that we can't seem to put out of office.

While there I got to talking with a guy who was from Russia. He said that he left Russia to escape Communism and now our government is trying to bring it here. (1). PORTLAND Tea Party (OR) -- When: April 15, 3:00pm - 7:30pm Where: TBA Phone: 503.320.4399 Contact: geoffludt@gmail.com UPDATE Just got back from the Portland Tea Party that was in Pioneer Courthouse Square. There were lots of enthusiastic people there with pretty good signs. Lots of We the People signs, complaints about spending, anti-socialism, and some Ron Paul supporters. One sign I liked was carried by a teenager or twenty something that said Party Like It's 1775. I'm not good as estimating numbers but it was more than a thousand. You have to remember this is formerly conservative and now liberal looney Portland, Oregon so I thought the turn-out was pretty good. -- Well over a thousand. Not sure how many the square holds but it was filled to the top and overflowing. Signs were great and have a ton of video but don’t know how to load on the web. Singing Star Spangled Banner was a highlight.
UPDATE The estimates I have seen were between 1000 and 5000 . The middle range was 3500, which is I think closer to reality. Still, its a huge showing for Rush hour in Portland Oregon, on a weekday, in a liberal infested socialist cesspool. Phenomenal. It may mean a resurgence of Conservativism in Oregon, it was once a very red state, before the bloody hippies found maps that is and schlepped in, ruining our economy and spreading lasting ruin that began in the late 1970’s and continues to this day.

Where: Downtown Philadelphia Phone:215.361.3094 Contact: philataxdayteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE About 200 people gathered at Center City's Love Park for a midday "tea party" to protest excessive government spending. The rain-soaked rally is one of dozens being held throughout the country. Protesters held "Don't Tread on Me" flags, banners and signs as they recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the "Star Spangled Banner." Then a parade of speakers lit into Washington's lack of fiscal restraint. --- I agree - it was more than 200 people and 20 signs. Unfortunately, 41 degrees and rainy dampened the turnout. It was a spirited crowd though, and full of ordinary people who are angry with Washington. I didn't see any disrupters, apart perhaps from one man who who seemed more emotional than disruptive. He was loud and intent on sharing his views at the periphery of the gathering. I saw media representation from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Channel 6 (ABC) and FOX, the latter two conducting interviews with film crews.

PITTSBURG Tea Party (PA) -- When: April 15, 12:00pm - 2:00pm Where: Downtown Pittsburgh, TBA Contact: Chris Conte (FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=53713557733) UPDATE Groups of taxpayers organized locally and nationally on Tax Day to send a message to Washington that they’ve been “Taxed Enough Already.” Hundreds of Pittsburghers gathered in Market Square for a "TEA party" Wednesday afternooon to express their frustration with wasteful spending of their tax dollars by the government. Tea bags were displayed prominently by participants, who carried signs with slogans such as "Repeal The Pork Or We'll Cook Your Bacon", "Revolution Is Brewing" and "Throw The Bums Out." The protests were inspired by the Boston Tea Party, in which 18th century American colonists threw tea into Boston Harbor to demonstrate against taxes imposed by the British government. Approximately 1,000 protestors also organized in Greene County to send a similar message to the president and Congress. --- I was at the tea party yesterday and even in the rain my guess was 1500 to 2000. It was shoulder to shoulder though most of Market Square. -- On Quinn he just said there were “at least 2,000 in Market Square.” That’s what I would guess too. -- Our local TV coverage had a crew covering Market Square. They played a short clip of maybe 5 or 6 Obamabots shouting stuff, but pretty much it seemed like nobody was paying any attention to them. And the bots were the only ones trying to cause trouble.

Many did not even come by the booth to sign up as they brought their own signs and went straight out to the street. Many that signed in were couples and only one of them signed the registration. (1). CHARLESTON Tea Party (SC) -- When: April 15, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Where: Old Customs House building, East Bay St. and Market St. Contact: bkeelin@sc.rr.com UPDATE Early estimates for the Charleston Tea Party at the Old Customs House downtown are between 2,000 and 2,500 and I have to say - what an encouraging event. The crowd was exactly what you might expect: defined overall by anti-Obama sentiment, featuring plenty of Fair Tax supporters, Glenn Beck’s “9/12 Project” members, Ron Paul folks, Christians, veterans, rich, poor, middle class and then some. While there was plenty of applause for “the troops,” the event wasn’t militaristic, and was miles away from the war rally we saw at last year’s Republican National Convention. The crowd was a hodge-podge of the grassroots “Right” the Republican/talk radio echo chamber has created — complete with all their predictable catchphrases (whatever happened to “drill, baby, drill?”) - and independent-minded citizens who just genuinely seemed ticked off about massive spending. During a conversation with one of the local Campaign for Liberty volunteers, random attendees kept interrupting our conversation to sign C4L’s “Audit the Fed” petition. These weren’t Ron Paul people, per se - they just thought auditing the Fed sounded like a damn good idea. Senator Jim DeMint and Gov. Mark Sanford gave brief speeches, followed by numerous very short speeches from various individuals and organization representatives. While there was an emphasis on Obama-bashing, there was no praise for Republicans either, something I believed would be integral to the credibility of the event. (Charleston City Paper) --- “Everyone had a fantastic time in Charleston, SC. The weather was awesome and the crowd was phenomenal. When we started planning three weeks ago we had a few hundred people committed to coming. At the event, some of the folks estimated it was close to 6,000, I say about 5,000 at it’s peak. Traffic had to be redirected because the street was filled with people.”

COLUMBIA Tea Party (SC) -- When: April 15, 12:30pm - 2:30pm Where: State House, 1101 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201 Contact: taxdayteaparty2009@hotmail.com UPDATE Thousands of protesters gathered on the State House grounds on Tax Day to vent their frustration over government spending and to dangle tea bags in a tribute to colonial protests against British rule. The rally, one of a dozen organized around South Carolina, drew about 3,000 people. Hundreds of similar rallies were organized around the country this week. --- Gov. Mark Sanford drew the biggest ovation during the Columbia Tax Day Tea Party rally for his stance opposing $700 million in federal aid unless the state pays off an equal amount of debt. Organizer Britton Clark told the crowd "Thank God for officials like Gov. Mark Sanford," Clark said. "They have been reviled, they have been mocked by the media for doing the right thing."
Along with six co-workers, I went to the Tea Party rally at the steps of the South Carolina State House in Columbia, SC. As many of you probably know, Governor Mark Sanford has been a state and national lightning rod for refusing stimulus money on principle.
Perhaps the most striking aspect of the gathering was the sign, signs "everywhere a sign!" "Stop Trickle Up Poverty," "Stop Socialism," "Stop the Somali and Washington Pirates," "No More Bailouts," and countless pithy maxims summing up the present state of affairs. Many people were decked out in Revolutionary-era garb and props!
There were no discernible counter demonstrators other than the obligatory college student or two yelling from a passing car. Police presence was visible but not dramatic or pronounced. Local news estimates so far put the crowd at around 1500-2000, although we in the crowd were guessing at least 3000 as the grounds, and State House steps were a throng of humanity.
The crowd was spirited and gave thundering applause to Sen. (R) Jim DeMint, who spoke about his concern over the direction of Washington and his desire to return the country to small government principles as outlined in the US Constitution. Sen. DeMint then turned the podium over Gov. Mark Sanford, who received an enthusiastic welcome and applause for his principled, yet unpopular stance on receiving bailout money.
Many people that I spoke with indicated that this was the first type of activism or public demonstration in which he or she had taken part. Once could sense the palpable frustration among the crowd regarding the current state of affairs, but at the same time hope and vocal, vibrant enthusiasm about today representing a small step toward reaffirming the greatness of the Republic as envisioned by the Founders.

CHATANOOGA Tea Party (TN) -- April 15, 4:00pm - 7:00pm Where: Ross's Landing (Downtown Chattanooga behind the Aquarium) Contact: Mark West Other: Chattanooga Tea Party Site Contact: mark-west@comcast.net UPDATE Wednesday's Tax Day Tea Party at Ross's Landing drew about 1,000 area citizens who came to protest runaway federal spending, members of the group said. The local activities were part of "a nationwide surge of non-partisan tax day tea party protests in nearly 500 cities that harkened back to the Colonial sense of outrage shown in the original Boston Tea Party in 1773." Protestors filled the public green across Chestnut Street from the Tennessee Aquarium, carrying signs showing anti-spending and anti-tax sentiment. Participants called their elected officials during the protest and signed copies of the U.S. Constitution as part of a petition package to be sent to Congressional leaders. Officials said, "Throughout the protest, ordinary citizens quoted from the founding fathers and historical documents in an effort to highlight the principles and beliefs upon which the nation was founded. There were many other activities that all served to highlight the rampant and runaway spending that is crippling the nation economically." "Recent spending, from the TARP to the stimulus, was passed with little debate and almost no opportunity for legislators to read what they voted on," said tea party organizer Mark West. "We've gotten to the point where Congress just passes spending to make people feel good, but there is little accountability to ensure that spending gets real results. Continued spending of this magnitude will force huge tax hikes for everybody, not just the so-called rich, and limit economic opportunity for our children and grandchildren." Speakers at the rally included Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble, Tennessee GOP Chairman Robin Smith, Hamilton County Commissioner Bill Hullander, former Tennessee state Sen. David Fowler, UTC professor Dr. Joe Dumas, Hamilton County Republican Party Chairman Matthew Bryant, Hamilton Country school board member Rhonda Thurman, and businessmen Jeremy Jones and Premo Mondone. Speakers "focused on the massive buildup in government spending and the importance of citizen involvement in and oversight of our government at each level – local, state and federal." The Congressional Budget Office estimates that this year's deficit will be $1.8 trillion, or 13.1 percent of GDP – the largest deficit as a share of GDP since 1945. The CBO also projects the president's current proposals will add $4.8 trillion to baseline deficits over the 2010-2019 period and total $9.3 trillion, officials said. (Source: Chatanoogan.) --- Wednesday’s Tax Day Tea Party at Ross’s Landing drew about 1,000 area citizens who came to protest runaway federal spending. “We’ve gotten to the point where Congress just passes spending to make people feel good, but there is little accountability to ensure that spending gets real results. KNOXVILLE (Putnam County) Tea Party (TN) -- When: April 15, TBA Where: Downtown Knoxville, TBA Contact: knoxvilleteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE In a show of discontent with government actions such as the federal bailout and property taxes, a crowd Knoxville police estimated to top 1,700 people gathered at the World's Fair Park amphitheater on an overcast Wednesday afternoon as part of a nationwide "Tea Party" protest. Calling it an "ideological war," Knoxville rally co-organizer Rand Caldwell told the crowd they need to be "relentless to save our nation" from government spending and higher taxes. (Knoxsville News Sentinel.) --- The press is saying conservatively 1700+. However, most of the press was there about 3 P.M., when I guess that we had about 1000 or so. The crowd grew until around close to 5 P.M., when I estimated that we had 4000 or so. The event was great. The Blackwater Band performed. A speaker spoke about current state sovereignty bills pending and the Tenth Amendment. Another speaker used the figure of a million/billion/trillion seconds to give an idea of how much we are spending. (If I remember correctly a million seconds is 11 1/2 days; a billion is 32 years; a trillion is 32,000 years.) One speaker said that ‘’Socialism doesn’t lead to oppression. Socialism IS oppression.’’ A professor from UT said that two things in current federal legislation MUST be removed to retain fiscal sanity: Cap and Trade, and Universal Health Care. He also mentioned that he heard someone say, ‘’I want my country back.’’ (At this comment, I waved my sign vigorously. That was on my sign.) There were a few anti-protesters there—maybe 20 or 30. One of them, an older, ponytailed guy, told a young girl—who was holding a large picture of an unborn baby—not to do that because it could scare the children. I told her to ignore him. She was doing good. She said that she was scared of old guys with ponytails. (LOL) A man dressed up as Ben Franklin and gave an excellent speech. Two local officials also spoke—Mike Hammond (whom I did not realize was as sympathetic to our cause as he is) and Stacey Campfield (one of the few true fellow believers in local politics whom we can be proud of). The last speaker was with a group called Oath Keepers (I think). He encouraged people to take an oath to the Constitution. His group works with our military to establish ten situations in which our military will not follow (unlawful) orders, if that situation arises. (He was the featured speaker, but I think that he was probably the only speaker who didn’t get the crowd going. Most people probably saw him as a little wing-nutty.) The signs present were one of the great things about the event. Many, many signs were present and the messages were fantastic. I took pictures. Maybe I can compile some of the sayings at some point. The event ended with a march to the Federal Building. It was a great day.

Speakers included TN state Rep Susan Lynn, TN state Senator Mae Beavers, Bibbie Patray from The Eagle Forum, Gen. David Evans (ret) whi is running against long time house representative Bart Gordon, and several others. Gen. ALLEN Tea Party (TX) -- April 15 (LOCAL UNANNOUNCED TEA PARTY) UPDATE I hadn't known my town was going to be having a Tea Party--I'd wanted to go to one but couldn't make the long drive way down to Dallas...imagine my delight when, after my daughter Maya's dance class we went to the bank and happened upon the Tea Party by the city hall/municipal complex! After grabbing some food at McD's for my daughter, we headed over to join the group. She was delighted as well (she's a bright girl, if I may say so myself!) and tore the back off a coloring book and made her own little sign to carry to the group. When we got there, I'd guess there was less than 40 people or so, but within an hour I believe there was at least 200 or so people there! We could only stay for about 45 minutes, but those minutes were so invigorating to walk around, meet others who were 'fighting the good fight' with their signs, and to hear an almost unending stream of car horns honking as they drove by--I almost cried several times because I was so glad to be there among REAL Americans, and because my daughter and twins and I got to participate in this grassroots protest against the obamanations going on in Washington!! Since I wasn't prepared for the Tea Party (my daughter was a bit disappointed she didn't get to make a 'real' sign) all I had was my cell phone camera. I took a boatload of pictures, and a few videos...unfortunately my dumb phone wasn't set properly (I only recently got it) and the pictures were saved to the handset and not the memory card, and it won't let me transfer ALL of the pictures at once, only one at a time. Still I wanted to share the few I did manage to get transferred tonite, and I'll try to finish the rest tomorrow. This Tea Party really left us invigorated and motivated and stimulated to keep fighting against the evil that's in control of our country!! Don't Tread on Us, liberals! WE ARE FIGHTING BACK!!! THIS IS WHAT AMERICA IS REALLY ALL ABOUT--FREEDOM!!! --- We got there about 5, that's when people really started showing up! There was a core of people who had "TEA'd OFF" t-shirts, but I suspect a lot of people were like us, they came, they saw, they joined in the protest!! There was a table so you could make your own signs and one with petitions on it too! It was AWESOME!!!!! :-)

AUSTIN Tea Party (TX) -- 1st Event: April 15, 11:30 @ City Hall (Gov. Perry will speak) 2nd Event: 4:30pm @ South Steps of the State Capitol Building (march to the lake) atxteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE “Austin had two events on at 11:30am in front of Austin City Hall where Gov. Perry spoke. 2000 Austinites were in attendence and the event planned by Michele Samuelson and sponsored by Americans for Prosperity was amazing. The second rally for Austin was held at the Capitol at 4pm and Dan Patrick spoke to the crowd of 5000.” --- The Austin Texas Tea Party Part 1 was a great success!! It was held this morning at Austin City Hall. We had some great speakers and a great turnout! When Governor Rick Perry showed up to speak the crowd was cheering and chanting SECEDE, SECEDE! --- Heard on the radio (590 KLBJ AM) there were about 1500 at the Austin Mustic Hall then on to the Capital. Not bad for a Libtard holding tank like Austin. --- My best guess was 1500-2000. For a work day, it was a huge crowd. Everyone was really fired up, and most of the passing cars honked in support. I was very impressed, and that doesn’t happen very often anymore. I’m glad I was a part of this today. --- Rock anthems like “We’re not gonna take it” and “Takin’ care of business” swirled with chants for “states’ rights” as an estimated 1,000 or more Texans protested stimulus spending, taxes and Wall Street bailouts. The first of Austin’s tax day tea parties — the “Don’t Mess with Texas Tea Party” — drew at least twice the number of expected people, said organizers, who estimated the crowd at 1,500. Austin police said they estimated the number at around 1,000. “This is the largest display of public sentiment in decades,” said Mark Loeffler, 40, an Austin native. “I’ve never spent my way out of debt. The free market can recover if we believe in capitalism.” “Since the Constitution was ratified, the federal government has slowly but surely eroded states’ rights,” said Gov. Rick Perry who spoke for 15 minutes. “Cut spending, cut taxes, shrink government and reread the Constitution.” The governor was among several Republican and Libertarian officials who spoke at the event, one of an estimated 600 taking place across the country today. Protesters brought signs that ranged from asking commuters to “honk if I’m paying your mortgage,” to comparing President Barack Obama and members of Congress to Somali pirates. But the most common refrain of the day was that those in Washington have trampled on “inalienable rights” in the Constitution, said Tina Benkiser, chairwoman of the Republican Party of Texas. “We’re firing the first shots of the second American Revolution,” said Rick Green, a former state representative and local drive-time radio host. “Enough complaining around the TV and dinner table. We have to funnel our words into action.” Another rally, the Austin Tax Day Tea Party, will begin at 4 p.m. on the south steps of the Capitol. U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul is among those scheduled to speak. At 5:30, protesters will march to Lady Bird Lake to dump boxes labeled tea into the water. --- http://www.statesman.com/news/mediahub/media/slideshow/index.jsp?tId=152442 Pictures from the Austin paper including one of RR Commissioner Williams and pictures of Gov Perry. They have now raised attendance figures to nearly 1,500 people at city hall during the Austin Tax day tea party on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. -- “The 4PM organizer in Austin said we had 5000+. Enough people for the cops to shut down the streets so we could march.”

It was estimated to be around 500 people. Wonderful speakers, friendly Texans, and a few moonbats, just for fun. -- I was at the Belton party. Fairly good turnout, but I was expecting more.
I went to the early Waco tea party, and it had a substantially better turnout. During working hours to boot. There were about 600 people. The Belton party did not have an open mike, but rather had prearranged speakers. That's the only gripe I have, other than the goofy Moonbats of course. Maybe 8 people?

Contact: carrolltonteaparty@gmail.com Website: http://cfbcteaparty.blogspot.com/ UPDATE There was another Tea Party turnout in Carrollton, Tx. at Josey Ln and Trinity Mills at 11:30 AM. Passing by it looked to be about 100-150 people with signs and flags. Pretty impressive for a suburban town and held at that time of day.
CLEAR LAKE Tea Party (TX) -- April 15 (LOCAL UNANNOUNCED TEA PARTY) -- Near Houston) UPDATE About 2000 people showed up at this tea party event. Since Rep. Ron Paul was speaking, there was a large contingent of Paulbots there. But I did see a lot of McCain-Palin bumperstickers on cars there too. Wide variety of people there. Also note that nearby Houston had attracted 5000+ people and even closer Pearland had a good turn out too. And Galveston had a fair turnout, considering it is still recovering from hurricane Ike. Apparently very close by Kemah also had a small tea party. All of these events were going on simultaneously, so people just went to which ever one was closer. Also note that this is less than a mile from the NASA Johnson Space Center, where a lot of Federal funds employ a lot of people in this area, directly or in businesses benefiting from a those high income jobs. I am sure a lot of people didn't show up out of fear of getting spotted, thus risking their job. Not to mention the high level of Democrat transplants working there.
We were on our way to the downtown rally & the news said that streets were being closed off due to the amount of people. Radio news also said that traffic was backed up to I10... not sure how far, etc, because we ended up not going. This was about 3:00, and the rally was scheduled to start at 4:00.
Radio announced a rally at Clear Lake Park, so we turned around and went there. We got there an hour and half before the rally started. There were about a dozen or so people there. By the time the rally began... people were stacked like sardines as far as I could see. I talked to the park ranger (I guess that's what he was, he was in uniform & driving a park truck); he told me that was the largest crowd he had ever seen at the park. I know we use to go to the firework shows there (back when they were "allowed") and I never saw as many people in the park itself at the firework shows as were at this rally.
This was the most peaceful, cordial, and friendly rally I have ever attended. None of that screaming opposition and nuttiness. I only saw one news camera, no news reporters from the media, and one documentary camera crew from the Ron Paul people.
Take home message I got: rally at your home, rally in your neighborhood--- community, and rally at these rallies. Everybody was encouraged and encouraging rallying together. I was really impressed. Frankly, I don't give rats pa-toot that the media didn't show. I am more concerned and happy that "folks" showed up in numbers... and have no intention of rolling over to play dead or letting this insanity continue unchallenged!
After the Clear Lake Park Rally, we drove downtown to the Jones Plaza Rally. It was about 8:15, and a decent crowd still remained. I sat in the car with the 2 youngest g'babies (watching Sponge Bob) while their parents & older g'kids went up to the plaza. (Other people arrived while I was sitting in the parking lot.) The kids said they encountered a couple of aggitators on the streets on the way to and from the plaza. Things had pretty much wound down, but they stayed about an hour. Two of my kids were interviewed for a You Tube thing by a candidate.
At both sites, the organizers told us about upcoming rallies in May. The kids didn't catch where the Jones Plaza rally group would meet next... we were so tired! The Clear Lake Park group will be holding another rally on May 2nd.
There were also rallies in Friendswood & Pearland yesterday. I found out about those at the CL Park Rally. Everybody was saying how hard it was to "find" the rally. Several people didn't even know about the downtown rally. I have to admit, that is a problem, IMHO.

CORPUS CHRISTI Tea Party (TX) -- April 15, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm Where: TBA Contact: corpuschristiteaparty@yahoo.com UPDATE -- As protesters threw burlap sacks into Corpus Christi Bay Wednesday, the crowd chanted Rev-o-lu-tion, rev-o-lu-tion during a Tax Day Tea Party to protest what participants call out-of-control federal spending. The event was patterned after the Boston Tea Party tax protest that was among the events leading to the colonies break from British rule, but had some modern-day concessions. Unlike their revolutionary-era counterparts, a small band who protested under cover of darkness and in disguise, todays protesters numbered between 500 and 1,000 locally and were joined in similar parties across the nation. Participants proudly carried signs and flags and pinned tea bags to their shirts or hats. And the sacks werent left to pollute the bay. They were reeled in by rope, recycled and thrown again and again. And while the sacks were labeled with the word tea, the didnt contain any. They were filled with empty 2-liter plastic bottles borrowed from a recycling center. Organizers needed something that would float. The local event, promoted by talk radio host Eric Von Wade, was one of 60 in Texas, according to the Tax Day Tea Party Web site. Von Wade said much of the publicity for the event came from social networking sites on the Internet. He estimated that 800 to 1,000 were in the crowd at its peak; various police estimates put the crowd between 500 and 1,000. When Von Wade, who was broadcasting live from the event, asked how many in the crowd had never been to a protest before, most raised their hands. Jane Dodson, who was among those first-time protesters, said big spending and concerns about how big the federal government is growing brought her to the event. I am very concerned about their intrusion into our lives, said Dodson, who brought her labradoodle Dutch to the event with a U.S. flag bandana and a sign attached to his collar that read Im going to a tea party. Many others in the crowd carried signs with slogans including Your mortgage is not my problem. Children also carried signs, some that read Keep your hands out of my piggy bank. The crowd was respectful, but passionate about the cause while cheering on speakers and taking turns to voice opinions. Participants even sang God Bless America. Taxes are one major part of what we are concerned with but we are also concerned about politicians, said Mark Blankenship, a member of a group called the American Constitutionalists and a listener to Von Wades show. They need to abide by their oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution, Blankenship said. Paul Hunt, came in a colonial costume, to reflect the nations history of tax protests. Its a not just taxes, that is not the only issue, Hunt said. We want our country back. Portland resident Don Nutting carried a toilet seat that with the lid down read Read tax plan and flush, and read Wash your hands of tyranny with the lid open. Im irritated that they make tax spending plans without deliberation, Nutting said. It undermines the democratic process. Robert Marsh, who described himself as an independent voter, said he attends rallies to listen to the speakers, check out the mood and watch the crowds. I like to hear both sides, Marsh said. Nicole Owens brought her 9- and 7-year-old children to the event and let them each take a turn at throwing a burlap sack into the water. She said they had not yet learned about the Boston Tea Party in school but she read them the story before they came. I explained why this was a throwback to our founding fathers demonstrating what we stand for, Owens said. I want them to understand the principle that our country was founded on and how far away from that our government is moving. (Source: Corpus Christi Caller Times.) --

DALLAS Tea Party (TX) -- When: April 15, 6:00pm - 9:00pm Where: TBA Contact: dallasteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE: My guess is about 2 - 3 thousand folks showed up. -- The cop I quizzed while leaving said he thought there was 5000. -- I posted on other threads that there was no parking spots available around 12:15. I drove around the block several times, hundreds of peaceful protesters, creative signage. I honked and gave the thumbs up. God bless you all for coming out today --- For perhaps the only time Wednesday evening, the masses assembled outside Dallas City Hall grew quiet as the man who drew them there, Phillip Dennis, hunched over a wooden lectern, his eyes narrowing. "We will be called haters, and we are. We are haters of big-spending politicians. We will be called racists, and we are – we are members of the human race," Dennis, a McKinney resident, said as silence turned to roars. Such moments encapsulated the spirit of area "Tax Day Tea Parties" – unapologetic public rallies that involved Republicans, conservatives and libertarians railing against government expansion, federal taxation and, ostensibly, the government of Democratic President Barack Obama. --- “I have been to many rallies and one of the things I found very interesting from the moment I walked onto this scene yesterday was the creativity and depth of the slogans on the signs. There were some that were the same duplicated slogans, but there were soooo many that were unique and generally well presented. I have been to many protests now and this was the first one that I have been to where there was such a variety of things displayed on the placards. Often placard messaging seems to be written from media talking points or created in (suspected) placard “assembly lines.” Therefore, the slogans at most protests are hardly unique and once you have seen a few, -you have seen them all.”
DECATUR Tea Party (TX) -- April 15th (UNANNOUNCED COMMANDO TEA PARTY) UPDATE There were about 100 - 200 people attending a tea party in Decatur, Texas (Wise County). It’s a small ranching community. FORT WORTH Tea Party (TX) -- When: April 15, 6:00pm - 9:00pm Where: La Grave Stadium Contact: fortworthteaparty@gmail.com UPDATE Fort Worth Tea Party at LaGrave Field. Pretty good turnout for hardly any advertising. I am not that good at estimating crowds, but I would say at least a 1000 or more people? We even left a little early and people were still showing up.
The crowd was cheering and enthusiastic, well behaved and orderly. Not much, if any sign of the media, besides what appeared to be a news helicopter flying overhead, but I am not sure. Even Governor Rick Perry showed up... -- I was there, too. One of the speakers announced that the stadium had over 5,000 people there. --- “Had 5000 and Texas Governor Rick Perry! We filled a minor league baseball stadium!”
FREDERICKSBURG Tea Party (TX) -- April 15 UPDATE Fredericksburg, Texas, population 10,500 (2005 census) Huge turnout for a small town. What this post can't convey is the support from all the truckers passing through with full-volume air horns of support. One had to hear it to understand. The estimated Tea Party crowd was 500 people. The Marketplaz was filled to the brim as speaker after speaker entertained the crowd of democrats, independents, and republicans. Even Thomas Jefferson showed up and reminded the crowd of the responsibilities of each and every American.

UPDATE Volunteers at the downtown Houston Tea Party at Jones Plaza collected over 8,500 signatures. Many, many people did not sign due to time constraints or concerns as to privacy. The square block facility was filled to capacity; lines surrounding the plaza kept the sidewalks filled to capacity and the police would only allow people to enter as others exited. MSN sources WAY lowballed the crowd estimate to 2,000 - 3,000. --- The thing is, more people kept coming to the square (as shown in your last picture) and new people were rotated into the plaza as others left. Thus, the total signature # was about twice the capacity of the plaza, which I would agree with you, looked to be about 3,000 to 4,000 at any given time. The “scenery” was outstanding. --- We arrived at 2:30 p.m. and stayed until after 7. It was AWESOME. Wall to wall people everywhere. Great signs including a tiny baby whose onesie had stenciled on the back “I am already in debt $20,000”. HUGE crowd. Only 2 negatives - speakers needed to use hand held mikes. Lot of wind and hard to hear. Band did not play one real patriotic song. We did the pledge of allegiance and had a prayer but no song. Lots of families and young people there. We rode the train-such as it is-and our signs and tee shirts brought a lot of stares and good conversations from other rides. Considering that the Chronicle had NOTHING in their newspaper about it and the local TV channels mentioned NOTHING and obviously the Mayor’s office did not recommend that everyone attend, it was truly overwhelming and a great start. At least 3 police helicopters hovered overhead during most of the gathering. Waste of tax money and certainly not needed. Policemen we spoke with said they were really impressed by the behavior of the crowd. Not sure what they thought would happen. Will be at the next one. --- Proof positive who's bed the MSM is sleeping in. I have a construction worker friend who was coming to the event with his entire crew. They are beyond outraged about all of the illegal aliens taking their jobs and suppressing their wages. They had to wait until they got off work to come to the rally. By then there were so many people there that they couldn't get close enough to even hear the speakers and went home. I was lucky enough to be there at the start and was right up at the stage with my eight year old son. My wife wanted to come but couldn't get away from work.

The sign of the Federal Building and some of the hundreds of signs people brought. MY CONGRESSMAN! Jason Chaffetz (Utah 3rd Congressional District) gave a rousing speech. A pan of the crowd while Jason was speaking. I'd estimate 3,000 people were there. The ground sloped away from the speakers, so it does not like nearly that many. There were also a lot of people off to the sides. Hats for sale. I love capitalism.
Congressman Rob Bishop spoke as the rain turned to snow.

It was a cold and drizzly day, but the warmth and friendliness expressed by the people went I got there was unbelievable. I have never been to a rally, protest, etc and was unsure of how my children and I would be welcomed. We were definitely welcomed with open arms, especially my children! And what was so nice about the whole event was that there were so many diverse people there. So many different classes of people and no one was judging or looking at each other for whatever reason, we were there for one common cause and it brought different people together.”

RICHMOND Tea Party (VA) -- When: April 15, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Where: TBA Other Info: Richmond Tea Party http://www.richmondteaparty.com/ Contact: sara@patrickhenryproject.com UPDATE Just in from the Richmond Tea Party. A big crowd (somewhere in the thousands, total?) gathered under dark skies and a light rain fell but did not dampen spirits....so many people I couldn't get close enough to even see the speakers. Tried to get a Tea Party bumper sticker but they were SOLD OUT. Diversity and transparency....hmmmm....it was evident that society was well represented at all levels....there were swarms of kids, young people, business people, students, housewives, retired people, foreign people, white, brown and black people, short tall fat skinny young old gray ugly pretty you name it....no less than four mounted police on horses and other policeman hung together while monitoring the crowd. All three stations were covering the event. LOTS of signs, particularly liked the kid holding one that proclaimed CORK THE PORK and also the giant pitchfork with tattered oversized dollar bills hanging from the tins. Oh, and overheard James Monroe introducing himself to a lady while George Washington looked on - George, standing head and shoulders above everyone, was beautifully dressed in a dark blue cape, boots and breeches, powdered wig and curls, every inch a leader; and Monroe, quiet spoken and also well dressed in knee hose, buckled shoes, tricorn hat and a dark long jacket.....sheesh, those costumes did something to me....at one point the crowd began chanting THOW HIM OUT and messages on signs touched every topic....Fed Reserve, Taxes, Bailout, Big Government, Socialism, Healthcare, Term Limits....all in all a well behaved crowd...with a lot of messages for Washington. --- I spoke to a policeman and he said probably 2000 to 2200 people. He said the parks capacity was 3000 and while close to full, not quite. It was shoulder to shoulder 100 to 200 feet from the stage. I never got closer than that as it was too packed. My guess is 2500 to 2800, from what I saw. For a cold and rainy evening, not too bad. --- “I just wanted to say that I attended the Richmond tea party and it was a HUGE success!!! Many thanks to all who organized this event! GREAT JOB!!! This was my first political protest ever and it was totally exhilarating! I am psyched and ready to take on Washington!!!” --- It rained on the Richmond Tax Day Tea Party, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of several thousand chanting, sign-waving Virginians. The signs told the story: “The Real Pirates are in Congress.” “Stop Toxic Spending!” “Tea Party Today. Tar and Feathers Tomorrow!” “Unrepentant Capitalist!” “Obamanomics. Trickle Up Poverty.” “Obama Wants Your Dollars. Do You Want His Change?” “Who Will Bail Out the Bailout?” (Richmond Times Dispatch.)

VIRGINIA BEACH/HAMPTON ROADS Tea Party (VA) -- April 15, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Where: Virginia Beach Town Center, Virginia Beach Contact: hrteaparty@gmail.comPhone: 757.672.1072 Other Info: http://freedomwize.org/ UPDATE -- This wasn’t your great, great, great, great-grandfather’s Boston Tea Party. There were some protesters dressed in Colonial garb and a handful of men in wigs, but the Hampton Roads Tax Day Tea Party also drew small business owners, realtors, retirees, stay-at-home moms and children on spring break. Police officials estimate that up to 700 people gathered at Town Center Wednesday to protest government spending. They also vented against bank bailouts, socialism, restrictions on gun rights and the influence of international law. With American flags in hand, hoisting signs that read “We have had enough, stop rewarding failure,” and “free market not freeloaders,” the protestors chanted “USA” throughout the two-hour rally. “It’s about the Constitution,” said Karen Miner Hurd, one of the protest’s organizers. The Virginia Beach tea party was one of more than 500 rallies planned nationwide on tax day. “It’s a grassroots groundswell,” Hurd said. And sometimes it felt like it. The microphones didn’t carry voices all the way to the back of the crowd and speakers like Reid Greenmun, a libertarian from the Virginia Beach Taxpayer Alliance, made a presentation with posters drawn by his teen-age daughter. Anger over the types of projects the stimulus money is being spent on and frustration that their voices aren’t being heard drove many to the event. “The stimulus package is extreme, it’s extravagant,” said Carla Waldemar, a mother of eight who with her husband owns several fast food chain restaurants in the area. “It breaks a lot of people’s hearts here to see our hard-earned money being taxed away.” Tax attorney James McElligott III said taxes are good for his business, but he worries about the increasing debt the country is taking on with the stimulus package. “I’m concerned about going back to the stagflation of the 1970s,” McElligott said. It wasn’t just federal taxes that drew complaints. Terry Hull, with Big Al’s Mufflers & Brakes, groused with a group of men at the rally about the city’s new fire inspection fee. The Virginia Beach fire department last year started charging owners or tenants for the inspections, which are required either once per year or once every three years. Hull had just had his building inspected and was billed $140 by the city. The taxes and fees are “strangling you,” he said. Greenmun encouraged the protestors to act locally by voting for candidates who shared their views and who would limit government. “You have to take back your city, your state and your government,” Greenmun said. (Source: Virginia Pilot.) -- I think the crowd was between 1500 and 2000, not 700. -- There were some protesters dressed in Colonial garb and a handful of men in wigs, but the Hampton Roads Tax Day Tea Party also drew small business owners, realtors, retirees, stay-at-home moms and children on spring break. They also vented against bank bailouts, socialism, restrictions on gun rights and the influence of international law. --- “Over 1000 people attended the Tea Party at Virginia Beach, Virginia. Lots of great speakers, lots of great signs and lots of great people. We won’t be silent anymore, our country is worth speaking out for.”

Among many denunciations of high taxes and out-of-control government spending, there were just a couple of mentions of Barack Obama -- one when a local activist criticized the administration's cap-and-trade energy plan, and the other when a city businessman said he prays for the president.

UPDATE The Tea Party in Olympia has just broken up. Slated as one of the biggest in the state, the event lived up to its billing. The Washington State Patrol estimates that between 4,000 and 5,000 people packed the Capitol Campus, covering the Capitol steps and spilling out onto the lawn and nearby streets.
Evergreen Freedom Foundation spokesperson Scott St. Clair said the event had a festive atmosphere, much like it was a public holiday. "We had no idea so many would come out," St. Clair said over the phone. "There were hundreds of signs - some of them pretty witty - kids, old people, families. It was kind of like a political convention with signs from this city and that across the state. This is the people taking back their government." EFF sponsored the "No Tax - Push Back" rally in conjunction with the BIAW, Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and other organizations. However, the event was transformed thanks to the nationwide Tea Party movement. A spokesman for the State Patrol's campus office, Sgt. Ted DeHart, said the event was orderly and festive with "no hints of trouble". He also did not see anything in the way of counter-protestors in the crowd. --- The protesters' signs made their message crystal clear: No. More. Taxes. The national Tax Day Tea Party brought the largest rally of the year to the Washington Capitol on Wednesday, with the State Patrol estimating the crowd at more than 5,000. --- “According to the state patrol, we had 5,000 people at the capitol building in Olympia, WA!!!!!!!! Not too shabby in the liberal bastion of the Northwest! It was great with great speakers and great people!” --- “I am STILL hyped from the Olympia rally! Estimated count was OVER 5,000! Add that to the rest of Washington State and the numbers say to our government here - Wise Up or Pack Up!”

It was hard to estimate the size of the crowd. The plaza and breezeway area was wall-to-wall, and along the street out front there was two to three people deep for a block or so! All in all, a great event. Several local speakers, our Rep.Cathey McMorris-Rogers and radio host Laurie Roth. (She really rocked! Called Oblahblah a muslim usurper!) My sister, brother-in-law and friends were there. I’m pinging her to this thread, but she probably won’t see it until tomorrow. I watched the local 5PM news coverage and channel 6 was reporting anywhere from 2,000-4,000 people. I haven’t heard an official estimate yet, but it sure sounds (and looks from your beautiful pics) like a wonderful turnout! GREAT job, Spokane! -- “I overheard one of the organizers saying they had counted upwards of 6,500 people about halfway through the event, and more people kept arriving throughout the entire thing.”

There was a Tea Party last Saturday which drew 300-600 people dependig on who you talk to and on Wed there was another one and attendance is estimated at 500-700. I realize these are not huge numbers, but the reality is, this is nothing less than a miracle to get those kinds of numbers to come to a rally at 3:00 in the afternoon during the week is nothing less than unheard of. Heck you couldn't get 10 people to come out for something like this normally. Take heart people, we have something going here, we just need to maintain it and grow it.

"America is an exceptional nation. . . . We want to keep it that way." "Big government stops here," said state Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus, whose party helped promote the event by busing protesters from an outlying parking lot. (SITE NOTE: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel account parroted the Associated Press/Obama campaign liberal line.) -- Today, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., they flocked to the Wisconsin state Capitol, as part of a national eruption of Tax Day Tea Parties. They blared working-class anthems including Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and Lee Greenwood’s “Proud To Be An American.” And the array of conservative speakers tried their best to work the crowd into a frenzy of anti-tax, anti-Democratic anger on tax day. Most of what they said drew applauses and cheers. But the rally’s political rants may have been upstaged by the conspiracy-minded crazies, who carried signs that equated President Obama to Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, lamented the rise of socialism, and warned of Obama’s plan for “white slavery. ” The events organizers bragged that the event drew 5,000 people. Police made a conservative estimate of 2,500 to 3,500. -- Thousands of people are gathered outside the state Capitol to protest what they say is wasteful government spending and taxation. Tea Party on the River
WHEELING - The $787 billion bank bailout. The $3.6 trillion budget. The auto bailouts. AIG bonuses.
All these issues - along with what many believe is a now unresponsive federal government - came to a head Wednesday as protesters nationwide gathered to demand government accountability.
In Wheeling, nearly 2,000 residents turned out at the city's Heritage Port for the "Tax Day Tea Party," one of more than 2,000 such events that took place nationwide.
Attendees at the local event symbolically dumped tea bags into a trash can. It was a local version of the Boston Tea Party, organized in many cities by a loose coalition of political groups. "But the question is no longer how long we will have to pay for tea, but for billions of dollars of pork," said Dave Soltis of Moundsville. He spoke of government leaders he believes are unresponsive to those they represent. "They feel like they can play God and run a company when none of them has had to make a payroll," he added.
It was expected that between 1,500 to 2,000 people would attend the event, and despite a light rain it appears that mark was reached. Those turning out were quick to answer with a strong voice when asked why they were there.
"The Constitution - I'm protecting my Constitution," said Linda Timberlake of Wheeling, huddling under an umbrella. "This administration is trying to destroy it."
Ron Clark of Triadelphia noted he was "outraged about the bailout," which occurred during the final months of the Bush Administration. "They're spending the money that belongs to our grandkids," he said of Congress. "And I think our representatives in government don't listen to us. "This protest probably won't go anywhere, but we have to do something. It seems you can't vote them out." Krujetta Clark, who accompanied Roy Clark, also expressed her concerns. "We're so far away from the Constitution," she said. "We have to return this country to what it should be and take a stand."
Many in attendance made note of what they termed "irresponsible spending" by the federal government, and they believed many of their elected officials don't read the spending bills of which they vote in favor. This was the case in particular with the $787 billion bank bailout, as members of Congress admitted after its passage that they had not read the bill.
"Some have asked, 'Why the tea parties?'" said event organizer Mike Camden of Wheeling. "I can't speak for everyone, because there are (more than) 2,000 of these happening across the nation. But over the last several years, I became concerned as government became more expansive and began spending more." He said he wrote his federal representatives, but received no response. "I thought, 'These people work for me,'" Camden continued. "Even if they just say, 'I don't agree with you,' they owe us a response." He said it was among the goals of the local tea party that U.S. Rep. Alan Mollohan and U.S. senators Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, all D-W.Va., "collectively listen to us."
Some in the crowd added, "and Charlie Wilson, too," referring to the Democratic congressman who represents the district on the Ohio side of the river.
Teenager George M. Kellas III of Wheeling made reference to a book written by his late father, George M. Kellas II - "America Sees This Book" - when he spoke of money the U.S. is giving to foreign countries as its own national debt increases. Kellas noted the $50 billion given to the country of Georgia in its battle against Russia, and how this in itself would cost each American $150. "I want to be part of a country that wants to help us - not rob us," Kellas said.
College student Matthew Cummins of Wheeling called for business tax freedom in the U.S., proclaiming, "Liberty is the only stimulus we need." "There are no incentives for achieving," he told the crowd. "We're being punished for being innovative."
Wheeling business owner Don Meredith spoke of "the decline of values in society, fiscal irresponsibility in government, an overextended military, and government's failure to protect our borders" against illegal immigration. He urged those present to "teach their children responsible spending, register to vote, engage elected officials about their thoughts, to vote for responsible candidates and hold them accountable."
Donna Crawford, a grandmother from Moundsville, said she is rethinking about retiring and collecting Social Security as she is uncertain about the future and how much she will be taxed. "I think government thinks we're a Robin Hood society where you rob the rich to feed the poor," she said. "But who are the rich? The government thinks we are." (Source: The Intelligencer.)

HOW THE MEDIA REPORTED TAX DAY TEA PARTY (15 APRIL)
In Tennessee, an overwhelming crowd of 10,000 people met on the Legislative Plaza, spilling into sidewalks and up the hill toward the Capitol building. Cars circled the area honking horns. In Rochester, N.Y., 1,000 tea partiers marched on the county administration building and city hall. Approximately 4,000 people crowded Fountain Square in Cincinnati, while 8,000 gathered in Madison, Wis., 5,000 surrounded the Oklahoma Capitol and 4,000 attended the Chicago party. Even Rhode Island, the smallest U.S. state, brought 1,000 protesters to its Capitol. Washington state police estimated crowds of 5,000 in Olympia while 2,500 marched the streets of Boise, Idaho and 1,500 rallied in Austin, Texas. In Lansing, Mich., throngs were measured at 7,000, while 3,000 gathered in Hartford, Conn., and 2,000 Floridians in Jacksonville poured wagons of tea into the St. Johns River. An additional 1,000 people packed into Market Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., while 1,000 gathered in Des Moines, Iowa.
So how did the Mainstream Media (MSM) react to these events. The liberal CNN, MSNBC, et al simply stated that it was a REPUBLICAN-sponsored event that drew "thousands" nationwide. Or more simply like the Wall Street Journal and others, there was NOTHING. Others like the Associated Press took the Obama administration line of either denigrating the efforts or simply like Obama (What Tax Day?).
And how about the politicians? Did they hear the stirrings of national discontent? YES!!! But beneath it all was the great building fear that this was a serious threat to the power structure. Janet Napolitano of the Department of Homeland Security issued a report warning of "extremists" in the right-wing conservatives -- going so far as to warn of veterans joining this group. The Republicans at a very late date tried to jump on the bandwagon -- but the majority of the grassroots movement simply want nothing to do with the Republicans who voted for the Stimulus package and Omnibus Pork package that followed. As a group, the movement response was to "vote the weasels out" in 2010.
The success of the Tea Party nationwide inspires people to more political action -- just wait for the Fourth of July protests!!!
All the indicators were positive when it was reviewed from the CONSERVATIVE viewpoint. There was a comeuppance in the future for politicians -- and more will follow. However, the LIBERAL view was one of denigration and simply refusal to even consider the grassroots movement significant. Many mainstream meida (i.e., Wall Street Journal) simply didn't mention the protests on their frontpage. However, the World Net Daily ran an article on 17 Apr that showed the positive aspects of the protests. Though the headline read "a million" -- and it probably will be in a final count -- the tallies as of 18 Apr for 485 cities documented no less than 602,000 and as many as 680,000.
1 million attend tea parties in 50 states
An estimated 1 million Americans participated in at least 1,000 tea parties, according to reports by organizers tabulating the nationwide numbers, with documented protests held in 50 states.
Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform told WND, "The Obama administration has awakened a sleeping giant." Tax Day Tea Party national event coordinator Amy Kremer told WND she has confirmed that more than 850 parties took place. She has at least 100 more reports in her e-mail inbox that have not been posted.
Asked how many people attended the events, she responded, "I would estimate it at over 1 million. I'm waiting on more numbers to come in from organizers right now. I can tell you it is absolutely over 750,000 right now."
The largest protests occurred in Atlanta, Ga., with 15,000 participants. As many as 10,000 protesters participating in Sacramento, Calif., and Overland Park, Kan., according to data compiled by Americans for Tax Reform on more than 207 tea parties.
Americans for Tax Reform has established an Internet page on the group's website where organizers of tea parties can submit attendance estimates to be included in the running tally. Michael DePrimo, special counsel to American Family Association President Tim Wildmon, told WND that AFA's tea party website, Tea Party Day, had 2,031 confirmations that tea parties were to be held in as many cities. "Since yesterday, we have had 394 cities give us reports, many with photographs, about the tea parties that were held," he said. "We have not been able to get all the information up. We expect more to come in as the days go by."
Glenn Beck reported yesterday on his Fox News program that official estimates of the participation in the Tea Party held in San Antonio, Texas, reached as many as 20,000 people. The Glenn Beck show broadcast on Fox News live on April 15, from the Tea Party held at the Alamo in San Antonio.
"The establishment in Washington, D.C., is terrified," Norquist said. "There were no such demonstrations four months into the administrations of Democratic presidents Carter or Clinton." Norquist told WND that the Obama administration was taken by surprise by the nationwide protests because the administration had calculated increased government spending was supposed to be the popular part of President Obama's economic stimulus plan. Instead, Norquist said, the tea parties held in every state on Wednesday proved Americans nationwide are demonstrating in anger and disappointment against Obama administration plans for massive deficit spending.
"Imagine what happens when President Obama, House Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid begin to pay for their 'spend-fest' with higher taxes and inflation," Norquist said. Kremer said the mainstream media have completely neglected their duty to accurately report on this nationwide movement. "It's amazing that the mainstream media is reporting it the way that they are," she said. "It's just crazy. It's basically just going to come down to us. We're now reporting it ourselves because they are not reporting it accurately."
Many say the mainstream media attempted either to ignore the protests altogether or characterized tea partiers as disgruntled Republicans unable to accept that "they lost" the 2008 presidential campaign or as "rich taxpayers" unwilling to pay their fair burden of taxes.
However, Kremer said she is constantly receiving reports from organizers about the movement's resounding success.
"I think it was an absolute success," she said. "We want to send a message to them: We hired them; we can fire them. They work for us. They seem to have forgotten that." She continued, "If it means we have to go after every incumbent in office from now until 2012, we will do that. But the American people are tired of sitting by, and they are starting to step forward and take notice." (Source: WND.)
Another pro-Tea Party response to the Tea Party phenomena that actually had the "Silent Majority" taking to the streets and -- GASP -- Conservatives actually protesting.
Implications of tea-party-ism unclear
It wasn't the Constitutional Convention. It wasn't the Lincoln-Douglas debates or even a staff meeting at National Review in the palmy days of Bill Buckley. So?
The numerous tea parties held around the country on April 15 had a compact and conspicuous character all their own – one that embodied the alien notion of pushback by conservatives, of all people.
Conservatives?! Conservatives, as experience tends to confirm, don't do pushback. They do moping and muttering with fine aplomb. As for getting in the faces of liberals — egad! That sort of activity is what liberals do to conservatives: witness the Daily Kos, the Huffington Post, Robert Gibbs, Rachel Maddow, Frank Rich, Keith Olberman, Jon Stewart , Tina Fey, The View, Bob-wuh Wah-Wah…why go on?
We know what goes on here. The official script for American politics – insofar as one can tell there's a script – accords to liberals the right to show indignation about practically everything. Conservatives are bidden, at a minimum to give due thought to their offenses, which include oppression in several sizes and, generally, Making Too Much Money (though MTMM is fine if, say, you give generously to Democratic causes).
Much sport, now and in the near future, will be made of the tea party attendees for daring to suspect Washington, D.C., of trying to control them. Nor, it must be said, was every comment made to the media by every attendee necessarily well-advised. ("Obama's not a Christian," some guy told a reporter for WFAA-TV in Dallas. Oh, please. )
Gov. Rick Perry's bit of fun with the idea of secession will stereotype him forever with Daily Kos devotees. (Can't wait for the return of slavery, can he?! Just about what you'd expect from the guy who took W's job! Etc., etc.)
An Austin attendee did tell the Austin American-Statesman something of import: "What I'm reduced to is this. I can't do anything else." There is something authentic in this plaint – something that reeks disgust, as well as weariness, with the state of politics as practiced by both political parties.
Few conservatives doubt that blame for a substantial portion of the nation's troubles lies on the late Bush administration's doorstep. At the same time, the New Democrats have taken the bit in their teeth : using the Bush deficits and Bush's lowly esteem in the polls as justifications for trying to remake America – without invitation.
Barack Obama's boldness takes some gettingused to, but the sooner we take it seriously, the better for all –even Obama's, if he doesn't want to wind up in the history books as the man who French-fried America, domestically and internationally. Obama's plans for health care, global warming, and energy are terrifying to minds that fail to see the good in nearly tripling the national debt during the next decade. Why? Wherefore? Because Nancy Pelosi says so? Because the administration owes the Daily Kos?
Not to be upset about the drift of American policy, both here and abroad, is not to be sentient – anyway if one holds much regard for the uses and benefits of limited government and market capitalism.
What's a conservative to do? Well, first, recognize the footprints in this dusty road. It was the left — the hard, uncompromising left – that set about a few years back to bury Bush-ism. The left yelled, obstructed, organized, propagandized, fought, bled – and won: first having settled on a presidential candidate whose personal image and ideology made him the right man for the job. A major conservative frustration at present is the lack of a leader with similar gifts and style. No Reagan in sight – not even an Ev Dirksen. Certainly not a Gingrich! (Was there ever a better propagandist-organizer and worse political leader than the voluble Newt?)
A compelling leader could emerge from the smoke of battle: someone we're not even thinking about now. Or maybe not. The tea party movement is inchoate. Will it lead somewhere – or just lie at the bottom of the bay amid all those tea bags? That's to be seen. What's to be remembered is that five years ago few, apart from Democratic insiders and perusers of bestselling books, knew anything much about the junior senator from Illinois. Today…?
It's not safe to suppose that Republicans are the natural beneficiaries of tea-party-ism. The post-Reagan GOP has dropped the ball too many times. There's thirst out there for a Perot (not the original version, one is glad to say!). There's thirst even for..Kinky Friedman? Boy, that show s how desperate many have become. The desperation, even so, is real – and larger than any tea party guest list. There's someone out there for whom conservatives are waiting. Should be fun finding out who it is. (Source: East Texas Review: William Murchison.)
Another positive report was from the International Business Daily Editorial:
(SITE NOTE: Specter is the first to feel the wrath as he runs for reelection in 2010. Snow and Collins are trying to portray themselves now as "centrists" and "moderate Conservatives" -- but there are already movements afoot to work against their reelections in 2012. However, that's a far way off.)
However, on the opposite end of the spectrum we have the mainstream media reports. The first report we saw on 15 Apr was from Associated Press. As expected, the rallies were downplayed in the headline as being in the "thousands" (versus tens of thousands). Second, as expected the Associated Press was crediting the Republicans as the leaders of this movement who have been only minimally involved. Also they credit "Freedom Works" as the head of this grassroots process -- A FLAT OUT LIE!!! This rush to report has not even touched on the FLORIDA and CALIFORNIA tea party rallies which were expected to draw tens of thousands. In essence, this is a MAIN STREAM MEDIA attempt to downplay a major event that they have refused to report on. Now they are going to have egg on their faces when the truth comes out.
What was sad was that foreign newspapers draw their information from America's main news sources (AP, UPI, etc.). Vancouver Sun (Canada) stated, "A reportedly corporate-financed grassroots" anti-tax movement, paid for, planned and promoted by right wing think tanks, corporate lobbyists and Fox News Channel, has failed to bring about the "popular uprising" against the Obama administration its creators had hoped for. The day of "tea parties" pushed by Republican operatives and partisan advocacy groups such as FreedomWorks, that sought to protest the Obama government's tax and stimulus policies by encouraging people to 'wave tea bags' brought about only a few hundred "tea-baggers" in most parts of the U.S., despite relentless promotion by Fox News TV hosts." It was sad that this was almost verbatim of the Obama party line -- and the foreign press bought it hook-line-and-sinker. They were just suckered into erroneous news.
The popular Liberal "HOPE" that the Tax Revolt was a flash-in-the-pan (SITE NOTE: The Fourth of July will tell these Democratic and Republican politicians that their jobs are on the line. Just wait and see how wrong this cartoonist is.)
Another liberal attempt to portray the Tea Party as a bunch of hypocrites (SITE NOTE: To answer this simply look at the tens of thousands who turned out -- do they fit this image? You then understand how the liberals -- including the cartoonists -- are scared.)
According to Mona Charen, "When thousands of people in all 50 states assemble to protest government policy, you might suppose that this is news. Not according to the coverage on the front pages of the Washington Post, New York Times, or the Wall Street Journal. The "tea party" rallies went unmentioned. In Washington, D.C., despite temperatures in the 40s and a driving rainstorm, about a thousand demonstrators assembled across from the White House. The front page of the Times found space for a big story with accompanying pictures of competing public demonstrations in Kabul, Afghanistan, but not a word about the American protestors. Perhaps this snub was intentional. Fox News (becoming a participant itself and not a recorder of events) had been beating the drums for these rallies for days, and some pressies clearly regarded them as therefore necessarily illegitimate. To show how Reuters treated the protests, they simply gave it scorn -- and used a picture from 4 April to illustrate their response...and making it seem like the faceless organizers (like Obama's organization) got people to complain to Reuters. (SITE NOTE: What the conservative movement should do from now on is to give direct feeds to FOREIGN news services -- and let the embarassment fall where it might. The problem is that the foreign news services use the AMERICAN news services for their reporting. That is why the protests were not really heard about overseas.)
In general, the mainstream media treated this grassroots movement as something that was vile and offensive. The Tax Tea party was treated with open scorn and derision. The Reuters response for lack of coverage from readers was a good example. The mainstream media grossly underestimated the numbers -- which was in the "hundreds of thousands" if not a million plus. Another factor was simply that even the smallest towns had turnouts that were unreported. "There were many rallies in small towns not reported. I’m from Lima, Ohio, and 500 showed up, but most of the surrounding towns, as few as 3000 population, had their own. I reckon in this area alone, there were several thousand Tea Partiers. And, on a Wednesday afternoon, when most people are working. Not bad for a middle of the week rally." These small 10-500 people will add up to a very big deal. But we expected this from the mainstream media going into the protests.
How is it that America had thousands of Tax Protests yesterday and you don’t have anything listed in your “Top Stories” section?
If there were thousands of individual protests across the county speaking out about war you would have been all over it. But when average American Citizens gather peacefully you act as if it didn’t happen?
Chris
Not one article online about the tea parties. If this had been done during the previous administration your reporters would have been falling all over themselves covering it. What a biased left wing organization. I won’t read your crap again.
S.A.
I have to say supporters of yesterday’s protests certainly did a good job of getting people to complain about our coverage.
We did include several paragraphs about the tea parties in our main Obama tax story yesterday, which seems about right for something that drew “tens of thousands” of people in total. These events make pretty good pictures, and we also did a photo slideshow on them today. GBU Editor

For the REAL STORY of how the grassroots movement came about see Michelle Malkin article, Tax Day Tea Party Cheat-sheet How It All Started. It's a shame the journalists of the Mainstream Media don't know how to tell the real story -- and are sadly manipulated by the liberal movement to the left.
The Huffington Post has tried to present its side of the "real truth" meaning that it is NOT a true grassroots movement. However, the videos, articles and comments on this page PROVE that the Huffington Post is simply spreading its typical liberal hogwash.
Who invented this Tea Party stuff, anyway? Glenn Beck? Rick Santelli? Twinings? The matter is up for dispute. Serious dispute. In fact the dispute over who invented the tea party may be a more serious and substantive dispute than anything that will actually be disputed at the Tea Parties themselves.
On the Rachel Maddow Show Tuesday night (22 Apr), Maddow explained the burgeoning teabaggy rift that's emerged within the teabaggers. On one side: RON PAUL SUPPORTERS! They were going to float around the country on a blimp and drop tea into Boston harbor. On the other side: a special Astroturf comprised of Newt Gingrich and Fox News and Dick Armies. (Source: Huffington Post.) (SITE NOTE: As sort of poetic justice, on 23 Apr it was reported that MSNBC's Rachel Maddow has suffered some steep audience of erosion in recent months, down more than 40 percent in viewership from her peak last fall during the election. According to the Los Angeles Times, Maddow's audience has gone from a high of 1.9 million viewers in the fall to just over 1.1 million in March. That's a big drop. Maddow was at her worst last week, falsely minimizing the tea parties held across the country as "the fizzle in the drizzle" and mocking the participants. Though the liberals tried to denigrate the Tea Party it is now being sorted out how many attended the grassroots protest that was up to over 750,000 without the end count from all the small towns yet.)
(SITE NOTE: Ariana Huffington's blog. Huffington Post, refuses to admit that it is a grassroots movement -- because any movement that can turn out between 750,000-1,000,000 folks on a workday means that they are serious and the Democrats and Obama's administration are in real trouble. When the other groups join with the tax revolt on July 4 nationwide, there will be no denying it and the mainstream media who are also fighting the movement will be ridiculed. If it is as successful -- as we think it will be -- when 2nd Amendment (NRA) folks, anti-abortion folks and tax revolt folks join in unity to show their displeasure with the Obama agenda, then the real fireworks will start. The next step is the Million American March on Washington on 9/12. The 15 Apr tax day attempted to beg the mainstream media for publicity -- but were spurned and even without publicity, it was mind-boggling with the numbers that showed up. Now the attitude is that WE THE PEOPLE don't need the Mainstream media -- as they have started up their own local networks to keep the loose-knit groups in touch. The Republicans are being told that they are welcome as conservatives -- but don't bring your politics here. As for the Democrats, they are all being warned to change their ways or face retirement at the next election.)
The Huffington Post Web site posted some of the photos that its viewers took at the April 15 "Tax Day Tea Parties" protests around the country and posted them in a special feature called "10 most offensive tea party signs." (Source: Chicago Tribune.) Go to FLICKR Photos sent in to Huffington Post of the 15 Apr Tea Party. The photos attempt to capture any mention of the "f" words -- portrayals on signs of Obama as Hitler. They especially wanted to highlight the "old folks" implying that it wasn't representative of the general population. The photos focused on the cutesy costumes some wore to imply that the protests weren't serious. MOST GLARING IS THE RACIST VIEWS OF THE HUFFINGTON POST IN DELIBERATELY NOT INCLUDING ANY PHOTOS OF BLACKS -- BUT INCLUDING A SIGN SAYING "WHITE SLAVERY." Remember that the Huffington Post is officially a blog and not mainstream media per se. However, Obama calls on the Huffington Post at White House press conferences giving it OFFICIAL status.
These "citizen reporters" also tried to capture any sign that placed the tea party movement in a bad light. Truthfully, it was a very sick attempt --- and honestly, I didn't see a thing wrong with the signs -- though some might have been in questionable taste. However, compared to a liberal protest as held during Bush's presidency, the signs of the tea party was not filled with filth, foul language, and vile images that the liberals loved to post. In fact, the photos INTENTIONALLY avoided the wit and intelligence in many of the signs seen across the nation. We have them posted here -- and you can judge for yourself the true content of the protests nationwide. Even after the Tax Day Tea Party was over, the Huffington Post continued to publish this tripe because the truth is that the liberals now have the first inklings that this is NOT a one-day affair. IT IS GROWING -- and a major threat to the liberal power structure and the Obama administration. Their intent is to dissuade others in the liberal ranks from joining the movement.
Thousands rally with 'tea parties' on tax day
(By JOE BIESK
Associated Press Writer) FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Whipped up by conservative commentators and bloggers, tens of thousands of protesters staged "tea parties" around the country Wednesday to tap into the collective angst stirred up by a bad economy, government spending and bailouts. The rallies were directed at President Barack Obama's new administration on a symbolic day: the deadline to file income taxes. Protesters even threw what appeared to be a box of tea bags toward the White House, causing a brief lockdown at the compound. (SITE NOTE: Notice the choice of words "whipped up" by "conservative commentators and bloggers" as though it is an unruly mob. This ties in with the just released Department of Homeland Security report that uses unsubstantiated claims and does NOT name any groups, but paints conservative "ultra-right extremists" as a threat. Even the American Legion got into that act when the DHS claimed that veterans would be recruited into the groups. The Obama establishment is getting afraid -- and the kowtowing mainstream media reflects this sentiment.)
Shouts rang out from Kentucky, which just passed tax increases on cigarettes and alcohol, to Salt Lake City, where many in the crowd booed Republican Gov. Jon Huntsman for accepting about $1.5 billion in stimulus money. (SITE NOTE: The same thing happened in Sacramento CA. Organizer Mark Meckler singled out GOP opportunists who wouldn't give him the time of day weeks ago — and then wanted to hitch their wagons to the Tea Party bandwagon at the last minute. Meckler said he heard that California GOP chair Ron Nehring was in the audience. Meckler invited him to say hi to the crowd — and then ripped him for waffling on the massive tax hike ballot measures (particularly Prop1A - $16 billion tax hikes). (Michelle Malkin.))
"Frankly, I'm mad as hell," said businessman Doug Burnett at a rally at the Iowa Capitol, where many of the about 1,000 people wore red shirts declaring "revolution is brewing." Burnett added: "This country has been on a spending spree for decades, a spending spree we can't afford."
In Boston, a few hundred protesters gathered on the Boston Common - a short distance from the original Tea Party - some dressed in Revolutionary garb and carrying signs that said "Barney Frank, Bernie Madoff: And the Difference Is?" and "D.C.: District of Communism."
In Atlanta, thousands of people were expected to gather on the steps of the Capitol, where Fox News Channel conservative pundit Sean Hannity was set to broadcast his show Wednesday night.
The tea parties were promoted by FreedomWorks, a conservative nonprofit advocacy group based in Washington and led by former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey of Texas, who is now a lobbyist. (SITE NOTE: Though we have been following this movement from its inception, we NEVER have heard of this group's ACTIVE involvement except as a "repository" website. Note how the AP turns this into a sleazy "former Republican House Majority Leader" and now a lobbyist slime-ball. This again is to link the movement to the Republicans -- and nothing is further from the truth. Glenn Reynolds, author of "An Army of Davids," had a nice overview of the Tea Party movement in the Wall Street Journal on 15 Apr. He said: "There's good news and bad news in this phenomenon for establishment politicians. The good news for Republicans is that, while the Republican Party flounders in its response to the Obama presidency and its programs, millions of Americans are getting organized on their own. The bad news is that those Americans, despite their opposition to President Obama's policies, aren't especially friendly to the GOP. When Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele asked to speak at the Chicago tea party, his request was politely refused by the organizers: "With regards to stage time, we respectfully must inform Chairman Steele that RNC officials are welcome to participate in the rally itself, but we prefer to limit stage time to those who are not elected officials, both in Government as well as political parties. This is an opportunity for Americans to speak, and elected officials to listen, not the other way around." (Wall Street Journal))
Organizers said the movement developed organically through online social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and through exposure on Fox News. (SITE NOTE: This is NEAR TRUTH. However, again the AP missed the point that it was more "developed organically" as self-organized. Fox News was the only mainstream media that seemed to support the cause, but even in their news was Geraldo Rivera and his ilk that were detractors with their misinformed comments. I'm surprised that the AP article didn't try to credit it to the CNBC newsman Rick Santelli. Michelle Malkin stated: Detractors have tried to "discredit the Tea Party organizers — first blaming a cabal tied to CNBC, then jeering at the amateurishness of the participants before crying "astroturf," then claiming the events were "financed by Fox News" or (fill-in-the-blank) conservative conspiracy, then smearing the protesters as crazed gun nuts (FNC's Bob Beckel) and racists (FNC's Geraldo Rivera)." (Source: Michelle Malkin.))
While FreedomWorks insisted the rallies were nonpartisan, they have been seized on by many prominent Republicans who view them as a promising way for the party to reclaim its momentum. (SITE NOTE: Again -- who cares about Freedom Works -- who did NOT have DIRECT involvement with the national grassroots movement. It is the AP attempt to credit them where there is no credit due. This is the sleaziest of Mainstream Media reporting. For the REAL STORY of how the grassroots movement came about see Michelle Malkin article, Tax Day Tea Party Cheat-sheet How It All Started.)
"All you have to be is a mildly awake Republican candidate for office to get in front of that parade," said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. (SITE NOTE: Again the AP attempt to give credit to the Republicans -- with the hint that they are manipulating the people. The Huffington Post and other liberal blogs continued to attempt to imply that the tea party was "owned" by certain groups -- and thereby denying that it was a true grassroots movement. It is true that many politicians spoke at the rallies, but if one notices their credentials, most of them are SEEKING office. They are the outsiders and the tea party group is hostile towards the insiders -- the current elected officials down to the state level.)
The movement attracted some Republicans considering 2012 presidential bids. (SITE NOTE: NO, THEY DID NOT. These Republicans have taken a stand against the Stimulus Package but have stayed clear of the grassroots movement. This is the AP attempt to make it appear that the Republicans are in control. It's true that those governors who took a stand against the Stimulus monies (Perry, Jindal, et al) were invited to speak at the rallies -- it was not associated with their potential Presidential aspirations. It dealt with their fight against the invasiveness of big government taking away the 10th Amendment states rights.)
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich planned to address a tea party in a New York City park Wednesday night. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal sent an e-mail to his supporters, letting them know about tea parties throughout the state. South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford planned to attend two tea parties. (SITE NOTE: Newt jumped on the bandwagon only when it appeared that this was actually a nationwide movement -- he jumped on as an opportunist. Though he is welcome to join as the movement needs widely recognized personalities like Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh to make personal appearances -- it also needs people of Newt Gingrich's stature -- though he's a bit tarnished around the edges for his past.)
"There is no such thing as so-called free money and that includes stimulus," Sanford told several thousand people outside the statehouse in Columbia, S.C. "Paying down debt is an old American theme and never a bad thing." (SITE NOTE: Sanford is in a fight with the President over getting the funds whether he wanted it or not. However, he was NOT a part of the tea party movement. He had his own troubles fighting Obama and his legislature.)
There were several small counter-protests, including one that drew about a dozen people at Fountain Square in Cincinnati. A counter-protester held a sign that read, "Where were you when Bush was spending billions a month 'liberating' Iraq?" The anti-tax demonstration there, meanwhile, drew about 4,000 people. (SITE NOTE: AH HA!!! Now we have anti-tax demonstrations with a few people. But notice how the paragraph is worded. The impression after the first read is that there were 4,000 counter protestors -- when actually it is the tea party participants.)
In Lansing, Mich., outside the state Capitol, another 4,000 people waved signs exclaiming "Stop the Fiscal Madness," "Read My Lipstick! No More Bailouts" and "The Pirates Are in D.C." Children held makeshift signs complaining about the rising debt.
"I'm really opposed to spending the way out of our problem," said Deborah Mourray, 56, a business administrator from the Detroit suburb of Troy. "How I run my home is: I don't spend more money so my situation improves. Save and conserve."
In Salt Lake City, where more than 1,000 protesters gathered outside a downtown federal building in the rain and snow, Kate Maloney held a cardboard sign that read "Pin the tail on the jacka$$", with a picture of Obama on a Democratic donkey.
"I want to get back my way of life again," said Maloney, who runs a small costume business and said she's recently had to lay off 10 of 33 workers. "Right now things change too much."
Other protesters also took direct aim at Obama. One sign in the crowd in Madison, Wis., compared him to the anti-Christ. At a rally in Montgomery, Ala., where Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" blared from loudspeakers, Jim Adams of Selma carried a sign that showed the president with Hitler-style hair and mustache and said, "Sieg Heil Herr Obama." (SITE NOTE: OUCH!!! Now the tea party protests are filled with hate mongers and wierd punk rockers. However, the "anti-Christ" comments are coming from the far-right religious conservatives based on Obama's stand on abortion.)
Still others talked of their children's futures. In Washington, D.C., Joe Hollinger said he took the day off to attend the protest with his 11-year-old daughter. "I'm concerned about the incredible amount of debt Congress is going to put on our children," Hollinger said, pointing to his daughter's sign, which read, "Congress get your hand off my piggy bank." (Source: AP.)
CNN Reporting Fiasco in Chicago CNN correspondent Susan Roesgen could barely get through her live shot at the Chicago tea party this afternoon. Over shouts of, "You're not a reporter," Roesgen quickly wrapped up an interview with an attendee, then said, "I think you get the general tenor of this. It's anti-government, anti-CNN since this is highly promoted by the right-wing conservative network Fox." A Fox News spokesperson responds to TVNewser, "Judging by their lack of ratings, everyone seems to be anti-CNN."
What wasn't shown was parts of her interview with a woman who was NOT as passive as the latter individual. This was captured on video by someone who was witnessing the confrontation -- and later placed on YouTube for the world to see.
However, there was another home video of the same encounter on YouTube -- and it was distinctly hostile with chants of "CNN Go Home" because of Susan Roesgen's attitudes towards the interviewees. Roesgen's unprofessional attacks on attendees of the Chicago Tea Party caused the crowd to turn on her network and she was summarily booed and chided by those in the crowd. This eventually resulted in Party goers chanting "Liberal Bias," "CNN Sucks," and "CNN Go Home!" Also on the video one protestor calls Obama the anti-Christ. Susan Roesgen whose on-air haranguing of those she was ostensibly reporting on made obvious her liberal bias.
But to top things off, CNN attempted to block the video on YouTube and have it removed. CNN filed with YouTube to remove this offending video by Andrew Marcus. They were successful, but the video had already been copied and went viral. CNN forced the takedown of behind-the-scenes video shot by Andrew Marcus of Founding Bloggers and posted to YouTube. Founding Bloggers sent and published an open letter to the cable network requesting that the video (which has aired on other TV networks without retribution) be restored. Founding Bloggers has sent and published an open letter to the cable network requesting that the video (which has aired on other TV networks without retribution) be restored.
It was disgusting how the CNN talks about journalist freedom -- but turns around to edit the news and then attempt to SUPPRESS the news. So much for journalistic integrity. Of course, the rest of the mainstream media suppressed this story as well -- though it was widely disseminated on conservative blogs and talk radio. The following is the video that CNN wanted banned.
What was edited out of Susan Roesgen's piece was how she was earlier confronted with signs stating "Republicans are to blame too" on camera and told to her face this was NOT a political front but a true grassroots movement. What was edited out was how Roesgen was hosed down by the woman point-by-point -- by a woman who was better than Roesgen at in-your-face style but with solid points. Intelligence versus inability to refute the points showed she was a reporter that didn't do her homework. In other words, Susan Roesgen looked incompetent. After this experience, she then went looking for an easy prey to ridicule and "reassert" herself in the eyes of the camera. This was not journalism but pandering newsmongering -- selling one's soul for ratings. It is a sad commentary of US mainstream media journalists. (Source: Atlas Shrugs.)
Americans who were outraged by her reporting emailed her to let her know how they feel about her unprofessional attitude. Apparently, CNN does not appreciate hearing from its viewers, though, because all of a sudden anyone that sends an email to Roesgen's CNN email address will have it returned as address unknown! After it was found that her bitterness with Fox News may have been because she was rejected by FOX -- TWICE for a job -- she suddenly went on a vacation and could not be contacted.
In the past, major media outlets have given antigovernment 'tea party' protests – like the ones held today – short shrift. Critics say it is because they are out of touch with America.
Atlanta - They came to public squares and parks across the country by the hundreds and thousands on Tax Day, April 15, hoping for nothing less than a second American revolution. Their "tea parties" are part of a burgeoning national movement, they said – a nonpartisan wave of Americans outraged by Washington's profligacy and its intrusion into every aspect of daily life.
And yet ... only a whisper in the mainstream press, they complain.
To tea partyers, the disconnect points up the wide divide between elite media and the population at large. To others, any downplaying of the protests is just a symptom of the broader reordering of the media world.
The hold that a few media conglomerates have held on the dissemination of news is quickly vanishing. Blogs and upstart websites like HuffingtonPost.com are providing a wider array of voices and viewpoints. The decidedly liberal HuffingtonPost, for instance, sent 1,800 "citizen journalists," toting iPhones and laptops, to cover the tea parties. In response to such "competition," traditional newsrooms are beginning to shift their mind-sets, too, using Web-based networking sites like Twitter to try to become more immediate and relevant to people across the US.
In that vein, April 15th's Tea Party protests are a kind of D-Day for alternative journalism.
"Today is one of those days that may lead to more awareness that this is a great tool and a great way to connect with people," says Jen Reeves, a new media specialist at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia. "It's fabulous that more media outlets are looking in and peering in."
The mainstream media have, to some extent, questioned the real grass-roots aspect of the tea-party movement. New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called it "astroturf" in a column this week – implying that political and corporate forces lie behind it. Critics say that mainstream and blogosphere ideologues are both acting as "parasites on a populist movement," skewing the truth and overstepping the bounds of responsible reporting in the process.
Cable news channel Fox News has jumped on the bandwagon, at times blurring the line between promotion and coverage as two of its top-ranked personalities – Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck – get set to cover Wednesday's events, according to Media Matters for America, a liberal media watchdog group in Washington.
"[Partisan news organizations] are normalizing conspiracy theories and making hysteria more palatable," says Erikka Knuti of Media Matters, noting what she calls a "hysteria ... about socialism, fascism, and a new world order."
Fox News grandstanding aside, the enduring momentum of the tea-party movement, which began in February, underscores real grievances, which participants say the mainstream media have largely ignored – providing an opportunity for alternative, Web-based news sources.
"Who's actually reporting on this?" says Michael Patrick Leahy, a Nashville-based blogger and tea-party organizer who will appear today on PJTV, a Web-based, right-leaning news channel. If there is slight media coverage of the tea parties, he says, "we may well look back historically and determine that April 15th, 2009, is the day the mainstream media died."
While the tea-party protests may reveal hypocrisy on both sides of the blogosphere, the coverage of on-site citizen reporters should be welcomed, not feared, by mainstream media organizations, says Ms. Reeves. If news organizations ignore or downplay such events, they risk missing the conversation that Americans are having day to day.
The growth of information is an organic process, she says. "I feel as if journalists – if we don't try to learn how it works – we are missing a backchannel of life." (Source: Christian Science Monitor.)
We are so infuriated that the Mainstream media that refused to pay attention to the grassroots movement as it evolved -- and are now being smacked between the eyes with it. Foreign news from Hong Kong, India, Japan and Europe are publishing reports of "hundreds of thousands" of Americans in a tax protest aimed at Obama. This is embarassing the US media as news that won't report the news -- and believed they controlled the news feeds to the European/Asian press (AP and UPI). According to the Hot Air Pundit: "What an absolute joke of a report from ABC World News with Charlie Gibson, slamming the tea parties, Let me get this straight, during the presidential campaign, anytime people would stand in line and wait hours to go to a Barack Obama event, the media would fall all over themselves talking about the numbers Obama would get at a rally, and how people were following his message of change in record numbers. Yet today, hundreds of thousands of people take time out of their day to attend Tea Party rallies in over 600 different cities in the U.S. and the media discredits and mocks it as some right-wing sponsered hate fest. No wonder they are losing the numbers they are. If this was a Anti-Bush rally, it would be doing your patriotic duty... "
On 17 Apr, NPR's Nina Totenberg was unsure as to whether the tea parties have “any legs are not” since “at almost any given time any cockamamie proposition in America will have at least 25 percent of those polled supporting it.” On Inside Washington she called the anti-tax and anti-spending rallies “a good stunt,” before declaring Americans “pay relatively small taxes” and then lecturing those unappreciative protesters about how taxes provide, as if they want taxes totally eliminated, “a civilized kind of social compact where you don't have massive civil eruptions. That is what taxes are for.” (Source: :NewsBusters.)
On the 17 Apr Hannity show on Fox News, host Sean Hannity played an audio clip of liberal CNN contributor Paul Begala as he was interviewed on the April 15 Imus in the Morning, in which Begala engaged in name-calling against Tax Day Tea Party participants: "Why are they out there whining with this Tea Party thing? Just a bunch of wimpy, whiny, weasels who don't love their country and don't want to support – there are guys at Walter Reed who gave their legs for my country, and they're whining because they have to write a check?" He went on to single out FNC’s Hannity and Neil Cavuto before Imus stepped in to defend them. Begala: "Mr. Cavuto, Mr. Hannity, all the rest of those guys, they have representation, they just lost an election – that's not tyranny, that's democracy." After Imus defended Cavuto and Hannity, and called Hannity a patriot, Begala shot back: "Then tell him to pay his taxes and support our country and stop whining about it." Unfortunately, this was the prevalent attitude of the liberal left -- "We won the election so shut up. Why are you against paying taxes that will benefit the people? Why aren't you kissing Obama's feet for giving you a $400/yr tax break? That's more than a dollar a day, you ingrates."
The American Sentinel stated: "While the President pretended to know nothing of the grass-roots Tea Party protests held on April 15, the Democratic Party and its mainstream media compatriots reported on the events with all of the derision and disdain we have come to expect from these elitist boors. Their attitudes bear a striking similarity to the British derision and disdain which greeted the colonial Tea Party movement in 1775." (SITE NOTE: Barack Obama admitted to Rep. Eric Cantor in a White House meeting after the Tea Party that he had been teabagged. The acknowledgement by the president is a contradiction of efforts by White House spokesman Robert Gibbs to downplay Obama's awareness of the grassroots rebellion against his socialist power grab. The Politico reported this morning that in a meeting with House Republican leaders, "Obama acknowledged that, in recent weeks, he has received tea bags from Americans upset by the government’s decision to spend trillions of dollars shoring up the economy.")
In the wake of the massive “Tea Parties” White House Press Secretary Gibbs gave an explanation akin to a speech his boss would make, he reverted to the candidate Obama stance of, “ a tax reduction for 95% of America.” He acted every bit as clueless as his boss, his administration has increased spending 4 times what his predecessor did, and yet never mentions how he is going to pay for it. This "tax reduction for 95% of America" was the coordinated "party line" that the Obots stated in EVERY interview by the biased mainstream media.
And what would we be without having to hear the words of wisdom of dear House Whip Nancy Pelosi. Smug Nancy Pelosi bashes the grass root's Tea Parties. What she fails to understand is that there are also liberals at these parties -- but this illustrates the depth of their fear. They can only deny and denigrate the movement -- attempting to call it a Republican move. Pelosi talks of the TAX CUT FOR 95% OF AMERICANS. Gee, $400 but she won't talk about the taxes she and Obama have ADDED -- starting with the SCHIP cigarette tax for the poor schmucks who have the habit. There carbon tax ridiculousness will penalize Americans with rising costs -- an indirect tax but way, way more than anything the piddly tax rebate comes to. Just accept it as the typical bs that Obama spouts -- just plain bs.
Even David Axelrod appeared prattling the same tired mantra of "95% of Americans get a tax cut" on Face the Nation. Axelrod on Sunday the "Tea Party" movement was an "unhealthy" reaction to the tough economic climate facing the country. Basically he said the Tea Parties were misguided. Axelrod was asked on CBS's "Face the Nation" about the "spreading and very public disaffection" with the president's fiscal policies seen at the "Tea Party" rallies around the country last week. "I think any time you have severe economic conditions there is always an element of disaffection that can mutate into something that's unhealthy," Axelrod said. But Hot Air Blog stated, "it’s not the parties themselves that he’s calling “unhealthy” but rather the potential of populist anger in an age of economic panic to boil over into more extreme forms. Even so, his intent is clear — to delegitimize the parties by framing them as a shot across the bow from some sort of inchoate militia."
But you really know that you're getting under the liberal skins when the liberal kooks start coming out. At the head of the line are the Hollywood set -- like Ron Howard wanting America out of everything; Sean Pean -- well, forget that -- but the latest is the kook actress Janeane Garofalo on Keith Olbermann's show who said the Tax Day Tea Party protests were really about hating the black man in the White House with a 8 minute long hate-filled rant. "This is about hating a black man. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of tea-bagging rednecks," the liberal comedian and actress told Keith Olbermann on his Thursday, April 16 edition of "Countdown." Janeane Garofalo embodies "the dark, the very ugly underbelly of the American Left today" which "is on display for anyone to see," Media Research Center President and NewsBusters Publisher Brent Bozell told viewers of Sunday, April 19 edition of "Fox & Friends Weekend." "What gets me [is that] no one on the Left has denounced this woman. No one denounces these people when they go off the deep end like this. This is the dark, ugly underside of the Left today," Bozell added.
The Washington Times reported: "Liberal actress and political activist Janeane Garofalo, in all seriousness, said activists who attended tea parties are racists with dysfunctional brains in a recent prime-time television appearance. "Let's be very honest about what this is about. This is not about bashing Democrats. It's not about taxes. They have no idea what the Boston Tea party was about. They don't know their history at all. It's about hating a black man in the White House," she said on MSNBC's "The Countdown" with Keith Olbermann Thursday evening. "This is racism straight up and is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. There is no way around that." Olbermann did not once try to challenge her on those assertions. The actress went on to describe the brain size of typical "right-winger, Republican or conservative or your average white power activist." "Their synapses are misfiring. ... It is a neurological problem we are dealing with," she said. This isn't the first time she's offered this analysis, either. Ms. Garofalo said similar things about Alaskan GOP Governor Sarah Palin's brain last February in an interview with an environmental blog. But this is the norm for the liberals after the Tea Party -- cracking sick sex jokes (teabagging), calling fiscal conservatives neo-Nazis or calling them racists.
Soon the cries of RACISM was bouncing around the media. In the Christian Science Monitor, one professor of emeritus plays the Janeane Garofalo of academia:
Jeffrey Kimball, a professor emeritus of history at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, says the protesters seemed to represent the most extreme adherents of American conservatism, hardly representative of the average American.
"We may have just seen the whole movement" at these protests, says Mr. Kimball. "I don't see it as a groundswell, but a manifestation by those people who form the core of … the extreme right reacting both to the condition of our time and President Obama – he's black and he's liberal."
Kieth Olbermann is a LIAR in his intro of the following video with Garofalo -- "ten of thousands" ain't even close -- and he will feel the heat soon in the flip side of his venom.
But the bottomline was viewership of the events with Fox News the winner: FOX RATINGS SURGE ON PROTEST COVERAGE 8-11 PM ET FOXNEWS 3,390,000 MSNBC 1,210,000 CNN 1,070,000 CNN HEADLINE 909,000 FOXNEWS O'REILLY 3,980,000 FOXNEWS HANNITY 3,239,000 FOXNEWS GRETA 2,947,000 FOXNEWS BECK 2,740,000 FOXNEWS BAIER 2,401,000 FOXNEWS SHEP 2,185,000 MSNBC OLBERMANN 1,499,000 CNNHN GRACE 1,336,000 CNN KING 1,292,000 MSNBC MADDOW 1,149,000 CNN COOPER 1,021,000
Perhaps the effectiveness of the Mainstream Media denigration and distortions of the Tax Tea Party is best summed up by the polls.
Rasmussen: 51% view tea parties favorably
Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans have a favorable view of the "tea parties" held nationwide last week, including 32% who say their view of the events is Very favorable.
Thirty-three percent (33%) hold an unfavorable opinion of the tea parties according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Fifteen percent (15%) are not sure.
While half the nation has a favorable opinion of last Wednesday's events, the nation's Political Class has a much dimmer view—just 13% of the political elite offered even a somewhat favorable assessment while 81% said the opposite. Among the Political Class, not a single survey respondent said they had a Very Favorable opinion of the events while 60% shared a Very Unfavorable assessment. (Source: Rasmussen.)
But what was the scariest was the article that accused the FBI of spying on the Tea Party. This is the true picture of the extent of fear that the administration sees in this grassroots movement. The Department of Homeland Security just prior to the 15 Apr Tea Party event issued a report that tacitly acknowledged that certain segments of the population — such as veterans, those who are pro-life and anti-illegal-immigration and gun owners — could be liable for breaking laws. This has since been followed up with a report from the Northeast Intelligence Network (NEIN) and the Canadian Free Press (h/t AtlasShrugs with additional commentary from AmericasRight and AmericanDaughter) that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had been spying on the April 15 tea parties. Pamela Geller's excellent Web blog, Atlas Shrugs, now reports that late last month, a confidential directive was issued by the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. to each of the 56 FBI field offices located across the United States instructing the Special Agents in Charge of those offices to verify the date, time and location of each Tea Party within their region and supply that information back to headquarters. More troublesome, the directive is asserted to have instructed each field office agent in charge to obtain or confirm the identity of the individuals involved in the actual planning and coordination of the events in each specific region, and include the local or regional Internet Web site address, if any. The FBI has apparently neither confirmed nor denied the report, so whether it is accurate or not, only time will tell.
Supposedly a directive was sent out on about 6 Apr that directed the FBI to perform surveillance on the Tea Party activities in their areas -- though the level of surveillance was not specified. The point is that the protests were being viewed as potentially "extremists" as put out by the Department of Homeland Security. The point is that the administration though claiming that the protests were a misguided effort were in fact regarding the protests as a real threat to their power structure.
FBI spied on TEA Party Americans
Exclusive to the Northeast Intelligence Network & Canada Free Press
Douglas J. Hagmann, Director & Judi McLeod, Founding Editor, Canada Free Press
19 April 2009: Even as average Americans were planning to get out in towns and cities to demonstrate against Big Government and Big Taxes, Federal Bureau of Intelligence Investigation (FBI) surveillance was being unleashed upon them. In fact, unsuspecting Tax Day TEA Party participants were being closely watched during the demonstration planning stages in a covert operation that began on or about March 23, 2009.
If you one of the estimated 750,000 Americans who attended one of about 600 TEA parties last week, you might have seen media cameras covering the event. Media cameras, however, were not the only cameras taking video at these events, something that has at least one current FBI agent concerned over the future of America. According to this agent - the same agent who provided the Northeast Intelligence Network (NEIN) exclusively the unreleased photographs of the 11 missing Egyptian students who were the subject of a FBI BOLO in August 2006–placed his concerns for true patriots of the U.S. over his own career when he confided that covert surveillance was "planned and performed" at each of the TEA parties that took place last Tuesday.
"Listen to what I am saying," stated the source during an interview with Doug Hagmann, founder (NEIN). "The Department of Homeland Security Intelligence Assessment that is receiving so much attention is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, and the true patriotic citizens of this country are on the Titanic. This is what bothers me. But is goes far beyond that assessment. There have been very significant changes made over the last few years that redirect the focus and assets of the intelligence community internally. These changes have greatly accelerated under this administration, and the threats have been redefined to include those who used to be patriots. It's not only chilling but absolutely insulting to God-fearing Americans."
According to this unimpeachable source, a single-page confidential directive issued by the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC (FBIHQ) was sent to each of the 56 field offices located across the United States on or about March 23, 2009, instructing the Special Agents in Charge (SACs) of those offices to verify the date, time and location of each TEA Party within their region and supply that information to FBI headquarters in Washington. The source stated this correspondence termed the TEA parties "political demonstrations," and added that the dissemination of the directive was very tightly controlled. "Not all agents were privy to this correspondence," stated the source, who compared the dissemination to an older "Do Not File" classification.
In addition to obtaining or confirming the location and time of each "demonstration," each field office was instructed to obtain or confirm the identity of the individual(s) involved in the actual planning and coordination of the event in each specific region, and include the local or regional Internet web site address, if any. The information collected by region was then reportedly sent to FBI Headquarters.
The source alleges that a second directive was issued on or about April 6, 2009 that reportedly instructed each SAC to coordinate and conduct, either at the field office level and/or with the appropriate resident agency, covert video surveillance and data collection of the participants of the TEA parties. Surveillance was to be performed from "discreet fixed or mobile positions" and was to be performed "independently and outside of the purview of local law enforcement."
Although the level of detail collected from each operation is unclear, the information was reportedly submitted to Washington, where, "at the level of the National Security Branch (NSB), this information was to "include the office of the Directorate of Intelligence (DI), and integrated with a restricted access database, one that reportedly is accessible to only two agencies" [of the 14 agencies that comprise the U.S. intelligence community, according to the source.
"The implications to the citizens of the U.S. are ominous. It seems that there is a hostile political agenda coming from Washington that characterizes the supporters of our constitutional freedoms as threats to our domestic security, which is totally absurd. The redirection, the refocusing of domestic threats from al Qaeda cells to 'flag waving right-wingers' is something that has gone from a murmur a few years ago to a roar today."
Training government-issued cameras on ordinary citizens, many of whom brought their children to an estimated 600 Tax Day TEA Parties is a page torn out of George Orwell's 1984 and makes the term "God Bless America" more meaningful than ever.
The Northeast Intelligence Network and Canada Free Press expect the government's denial of the surveillance of the TEA Parties to go viral as soon as this story is posted. (Source: Homeland Security US.)
UPDATE: U.S. runs April deficit for first time since '83 -- Government normally runs April surplus as tax payments swell coffers (May 2009) The federal government ran a deficit in April for the first time in 26 years, pushing the red ink so far this budget year to a record $802.3 billion. The Treasury Department said Tuesday the deficit for April was $20.9 billion, a sharp contrast from the surplus of $159.3 billion in the same month last year. It also was slightly more than the $20 billion deficit economists had expected.
For the budget year that began Oct. 1, the imbalance totals $802.3 billion, keeping the country on track to register the first $1 trillion annual deficit in U.S. history. And the Obama administration made an accounting change on bailout payments or the deficit already would have been at nearly $1 trillion.
Bailout, benefits to blame
The administration on Monday (11 May) raised its deficit estimate for the year to $1.84 trillion, from the $1.75 trillion it estimated less than two months ago. , from the $1.75 trillion it estimated less than two months ago. The government normally runs surpluses in April as Treasury's coffers swell with people paying their annual tax bills by the April 15 deadline. But the deficit is being driven higher by the billions of dollars being spent to rescue the financial system from its worst crisis since the 1930s and deal with the worst recession in decades.
The recession also has boosted government outlays for benefit programs like unemployment insurance and food stamps while slashing tax revenues.
The administration made revisions to the deficits reported from October through March to reflect a change in how it was accounting for the bailout payments. The Bush administration recorded each payment to a bank or auto company getting bailout support on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
However, the Obama administration said it was changing the accounting process to a "net present value" basis, which means it assumes that the government is getting an asset when it provides loans to the banks and auto companies. Based on the new accounting method, the size of the deficit from October through March fell about $175 billion. (SITE NOTE: The house of smoke and mirrors and using fuzzy math to get the numbers down. Obama is in big trouble with his promises. His stimulus package has forced the US into a debt situation -- and all the money pumped in to create jobs were just a smoke screen. Job numbers created over 2.5 million short -- and the funds really don't kick in till 2010. Obama's house of cards is starting to crumble at the edges -- and he's only been in office for four months.)
Through the first seven months of this budget year, the government has collected $1.26 trillion in receipts, a drop of 18.9 percent from a year ago. Outlays totaled $2.058 trillion, a record for the first seven months of a budget year and up 20.9 percent from a year ago. The deficit of $802.3 billion compares with an imbalance of $153.5 billion through the first seven months of last year. Economists are worried the government's huge borrowing needs will trigger steep increases in interest rates if domestic and foreign investors start demanding a larger return for holding Treasury debt.
But so far the big increase in the supply of Treasury securities has occurred at a time when interest rates have been pushed lower by heavy demand for what investors see as super-safe investments during a time of high anxiety about other types of debt. Under the administration's new budget estimates, the $1.84 trillion deficit for this year will be followed by a $1.26 trillion deficit in 2010 and will never dip below $500 billion over the next decade. The administration estimates the deficits from 2010 to 2019 will total $7.1 trillion. The current record deficit was the $454.8 billion imbalance recorded last year. (SITE NOTE: Obama's campaign promise that he would refuse to saddle his children with an unpayable debt was just campaign hogwash. The numbers speak for themselves as how dangerous Obama's economic policies are. The revolt is on.) (Source: MSNBC.)
